Will it last? Time will tell.

Pros:Nice range, low price, light weight, great optics.
Cons:Not as robust as I would like.
The Bottom Line: If you want Nikon optical quality at a bargain price buy it, but treat it with care.
I moved to a Nikon F80 (N80) last December when my Minolta x700 went faulty. I asked lots of people for advise and was told Nikons last forever. I don't think this lens will.
It is very light and zoom and focus movements feel to have a lot of slack. I would not advise giving this lens a lot of physical abuse. That said I can not fault the results that this little zoom produces.
It complements the N80 beautifully being light and very responsive on autofocus. It has given consistent and excellent results from 28mm through to 80mm. Edge to edge sharpness and no distortion.
The 58mm filter thread is a bit of an odd ball and I have had to buy new filters to suit.
I do find the f3.5-5.6 maximum aperture a bit limiting as I usually use 100 ASA film and find shutter speeds drop to camera shake levels in cloudy conditions. I will probably buy the 50mm f1.8 Nikon to use in low light conditions.
