Here in Houston, where the locals have lungs like coal miners, you have to find something that purifies the air around you--even when you're not staying in one place. The Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze is the answer.
Clean Air? What's That?
The ionized air that comes from the unit is aimed right at your nostrils, so you'll smell the difference. I've never smelled ionized air until I used this device, so I thought it was broken when I first got it, because I thought the air smelled like it was burnt. Several Sharper Image reps and operators assured me that ionized air is supposed to smell that way.
You can literally walk into a smoking area in a restaurant, put the Ionic Breeze closer to your nose, and not smell the smoke at all. Unbelieveable.
The unit also helps in the enclosed area of a car, so as you drive, you're cleaning the air in the entire cabin.
My Head...
It's not the ionized air that's causing the headaches, but the weight of the unit. The unit isn't heavy, but the weight of it on the strap is enough to cut off some circulation in the back of my neck, causing headaches that won't go away till at least half an hour after I've removed the device. There were only two remedies: return the unit or make a pad for the neck strap that would more broadly distribute the pulling weight of the unit. If you find that you get headaches after wearing neck straps for cameras or binoculars, you might want to think about this.
Conclusion
I returned the unit because of the headaches, but am thinking of repurchasing it, and perhaps finding a neck strap pad at a camera shop to take care of the headaches, because I need my clean air. I definitely recommend you try one out at your local Sharper Image store.
