The Bottom Line If you're considering a new Desktop, you may want to build your own computer and compare it with a similarly equipped Dell.

When people are looking forward to buying a new desktop computer, many people turn to Dell for a new desktop. But before you do so, you may want to know that Dell might charge customers much more than they really should. Since many people don・t realize that with Dell there is a middle man itself. That middleman is the company, DELL. Since Dell takes computer parts from the manufacturers・ warehouses, there often is a charge on shipping from the warehouse to the Dell・s assembly lines and once the newly built system by DELL is finished, then it・s delivered to the customers who have requested a DELL. When you compare the prices of the options from Dell with your local computer store (That doesn・t count in cases where Dell offers a promotion such as a free CD Rewriter), you maybe surprised how much Dell charges you. Once you・ve seen the difference, it is obvious that the Dell may not be worth the extra money. But there are exceptions where for the inexperienced computer user; it would be best to go with Dell.

Another problem with Dell is that once the parts are broken, you have to replace them with Dell, especially with the motherboards. This is because as in any computer manufacturer, it usually requires a special motherboard to fit in the case. But if you were to add options with your new Dell, you maybe surprised at how much they really charge people for just parts.

However on the plus side of Dell, do look for promotions such as free PDA and free DVD or CD Rewriter. These are usually the promotions that many people take advantage of and they can really add the life of your Dell computer. But if you・re going to upgrade your parts after the purchase of the Dell, do not buy it from DELL even though the manufacturer says so. That is because their parts are much more expensive when you・ve compare it to the local computer store. Many of the upgrades can be done easily without calling Dell, unless the motherboard needs to be replaced.

However, Dell offers award winning technical support for those who are willing to upgrade their warranty from 1 year to 3 years, because it allows the user for a lifetime technical support (as long as you still own the computer). This is worth the extra money for those who are computer illiterate and for those who are entirely new to computers. If you aren・t willing to upgrade, at least there is the free round the clock support during the warranty.

In conclusion, Dell is not worth the extra money for many because of many people that are out there that can assemble a better computer for the money and they tend to offer better flexibility when it comes to motherboard replacements and by upgrading. In addition, Dell・s computer housing is only adequate if it were for those who aren・t really looking to expand their system in the near future.
