If you're considering a new Desktop, you may want to build your own computer and compare it with a similarly equipped Dell.

In fact, building your own system can even cost more than a pre-configured system with the same parts, because not only do you have to factor in the cost of an operating system, but the cost of all of the applications that you need.

Although I have built my own computers, I don't really see much savings over buying a prebuilt system, especially when you include the cost of the operating system. Can you give us some examples of how building a system yourself saved a significant amount?

I am not against building your own system, though, I like to put together my own system which allows me to upgrade incrementally.
