Give me Greece anyday!!Dec 11 '01 Write an essay on this topic.The Bottom Line Pack nothing else but a bikini and sunglasses. Just another famous beachy island with no pazzaaz. STUPID US: Just wasted our hard earned money on an August backpacking holiday in famous vacation spot, Cyprus. Our best adventure from our week's trip was the boat rides getting there and back from Israel, but that's another story. We were able to visit all of the things to do in the cities of: Limasol, Pafos and Nicosia. These were the only cities we non-drivers could find transportation too. Here's the full story of how hard it is, without a rented car, which by the way BOOK WAY IN ADVANCE especially in August!! DO U NEED TRANSPORTATION??? There is one bus a day between the major cities I mentioned above at 7:30am (A TOURIST'S FAVORITE HOUR) useful busses within the city and maybe a few short bus tours available for the better travel spots like the quaint little Trodos mountin villages. BE CAREFUL WITH WHO U BOOK BUS TOURS!! Twice our bus tours were canceled at the last minute. OUR TIP: never book a mini bus tour, and big hotel buses always have room and always leave on time. There are great service taxis between the aforementioned cities that pick you up and leave you off wherever you are staying. DOWNSIDE: they run once an hour, last one leaves at five, advance booking needed, no English spoken, and if your ALERGIC TO TABBACO stay kilometers away from these cabs. CHEEP LODGING NEVER LOOKED SO BAD!! In life you're either rich or poor. IF YOU'RE RICH YOULL LOVE THIS RITZY SPOT. However we the backpackers look for youth hostels government run so the rats wont bite our last cracker. One hostel a city left us no choice but to sweep our rooms, spray for bugs and carry all our belongings oh ah stay away from the worm infested refrigerator. No locks on the door, but there is hay in the mattresses. UPSIDE: No need to ever book in advance, always empty, and no one answers the phone. ONE SITE A DAY MAKES THE TRAVELER LEAVE STRAIGHT AWAY!! Pafos and Nicosia are the only cities with WORTHWHILE TOURIST SITES. Pafos has gorgeous mosaic floors. Nicosia has an amazing folk art museum. All the rest are just BROUCHORE FILLERS but not worth a flight. THE ONLY REASON WORTH COMING: SHOPPING: It is a traveler's shopping haven especially if you like WOOLAWORTHS their favorite store. You can find cute markets anywhere and shops by the million. It is definitely an economy based on Tourists alone. FOOD: In every expense range, at all corners and all times a day EXCEPT DURRING NATIONAL NAPPING HOURS, You can find simple and delicious cuisine STOLEN from the Greek and Turkish kitchens.MUST TRY: Hallumi cheese  |
