Yes I admit it I am a memory fanatic. I love remembering when my children were little, and I have all the drawings and what not prove it. And being that my oldest is 15,and the youngest of 5 is 3, so can you even imagine how many boxes of memories I have collected over all those years, and times that by 5.
It's funny, even when my 3 year old draws me a line on a paper, I fold it up and save it. I save everything, from drawings to every card they have ever received. I think that it is nice to look back at yourself and remember that is how you once were, and now look at how you are.
Remembering is a good thing..Even when you remember the bad times. You reflect back on all the things you have done, and when you have pictures, drawings, etc to help you, it just makes the experience even easier.
Now keeping all of these memories intact is another thing. Being that I live in Florida, the humidity here is, well let's say that is all Florida is, humidity. So keeping things boxed up for a long period of time will probably ruin them first. The moisture molds everything, especially paper box in a box.
So what I do is make scrapbooks. Lots of them. I do them all different ways. By the years, by the occasion, by the age, o just however I am feeling during that time of creativeness. I am years behind, and I honestly think it is going to never be completely finished, but I love doing it. The children love helping me with them. And when I am through with the scrapbook I buy plastic slipcovers to go over the entire scrapbook. There easy to remove when someone wants to take a looksie.
Now being that I have so many, I have taken wood and made chests with it. And each one of my children have decorated each one of theirs with their particular style and grace. I outline the inside with felt, and if the scrapbook is all about them, then it goes in their chest, if it is about all of us, it goes in the family chest, and so on..
So basically my house is filled with memories. And Im glad I have a big house, otherwise, we would be over flowing in them.
Now in October we will be building a new chest to start memories for our 6th child. As a matter of fact I have already started collecting a newspaper a week, and just little things like that. Recording the sounds of the baby in my tummy with my Bebe Sounds Recorder, and just getting as much information, so when he is older he can look back at a time when he wasn't even here, yet he was in my tummy.
Well that is it for me. Maybe it is not to exciting to anyone else how I chose to remember things, but for my family it is a tradition. (Yes there are some people that still have them.) We live in a time when everything is going so fast and we forget what happened the day before. Capture some of those days by keeping something. Maybe a newspaper, or a book of matches from a restaurant. Anything ! Cause when you find it 10 years down the road, I bet it is going to bring a smile to your face, cause you remembered something good that you had forgotten.
Take Care & Peace.
