I have ordered only twice from 1800 flowers, years apart, and both times have been disastrous.
Years ago, I ordered something, I don't even remember what, and it arrived dead. They refunded my money and I went elsewhere.
I attempted to use them again for Mother's Day this year, thinking that in the spans of several years, they ought to have improved. I ordered an elegant, $70, full monochromatic bouquet with lots of flowers including roses and lilies, and little greenery, in a ceramic vase. It was specifically advertised as being monochromatic, as that's what made it so elegant.
Their first fault was a late delivery-so far outside the promised window that my mom had actually left for the day. Thankfully a coworker was still around and accepted the flowers.
When it arrived, the only thing that even remotely resembled the picture was the vase. Aside from being completely parched (despite being florist delivered), what arrived was a tacky, cheap looking "bouquet" (it's a stretch to call it that) of primarily filler, and a few carnations, in an assortment of bright, obnoxious, juvenile, artificial colors. The thing was hideous, and tacky, and looked like I'd gone to the grocery store, bought a clearance bouquet, and thrown it in a vase. Wrong colors and types of flower aside, the arrangement was also the size of a $20 or $30 arrangement, not $70.
A substitution of an equal quantity and level of elegance of flowers in a different color or combination of colors from the original would have been completely acceptable and understandable. But they did not at all attempt to give me the value of my purchase and the final product did not reflect my choice of size, style, tone, elegance, or cost.
I immediately telephoned them and insisted on a refund. They wanted to send a replacement but I was not about to embarrass myself twice. The man gave me difficulty in agreeing to the refund. He finally agreed, which according to what I understand from friends who've been similarly victimized by a 1800 flowers bait and switch routine, is hard to get them to concede to so I was lucky.
He then asked me if I'd had it florist delivered. I affirmed that I had. He said "Oh, that's why. Sometimes those florists aren't very reliable." I asked him then why they contracted them if they could not guarantee the quality. He did not know. I was embarrassed for him and 1800 flowers that he ever made the florist comment to begin with as it made both him and 1800 flowers look bad. I informed him that I would not ever be using them again and asked him to remove me from their database.
Today they sent me a card with a "thanks" for my loyal business and a coupon for 15% off a future purchase. Guess you can add completely disregarding customer feedback and requests to their list of flaws.
I ended up having a local florist deliver my flowers and they were elegant. I should have stuck with my usual staple, proflowers.com, to begin with, but the ones I chose originally were so pretty that I couldn't pass them up. If you're looking for a reliable internet florist, check out proflowers.com, whom I've used for years without fail or fault, and stay as far as you can from 1800 flowers.
