… Shoving Convention Where The Sun Don’t Shine …

I'm sure there were 10 really good albums that came out in 2000 (some here even might've), but somehow i doubt it. BTW, my illustrious Editorship earned $3.85 in November.

So, not "the best" but still a full-fledged "Top Reviewer" imbibement? And, where's any evidence of me rubber-stamping, EVER? Further more, when published, there where no "General" categories in which to place this review.

The vision of this website is floundered on your (et. al.) mediocrite complacency.

Would be VH... (Reply to this comment)
by pmills1210, pmills1210 is an Advisor on Epinions in Music
if it were in a category such as General Music Reviews. It seems to me that you don't mind rubber stamping if it's to your benefit. As for Mr. Swancide, I won't say he writes the best reviews, but they are good enough for me. If they are not good enough for you, that's your prerogative.

Let me simply say that was freaking AWESOME! It was SO good to hear from you. You don't know.

I am selfish, though; you must do something new.

I will try as well.

Thanks for getting back,

Thanks, E.K. -- i've gotta be real careful when considering a return since it becomes some damn consuming - of course, that's assuming precipitation of dialogue. It would appear that the eps landscape has changed considerably given what i see when perusing new listings, and i just don't know if i can muster the gumption for any new posts (hell, it took me 6 weeks to encounter your most gracious of comments). I will say that i continue to listen to tons of new stuff and new frontiers in musical discovery are as rewarding as ever.

Thanks again for the nice comments, see you in the funny papers!

Thanks for the rating on that afro rock review; a very nice surprise. I would love to see something new from you. Of all the people I've read here I think your taste and opinions on music are tops. Just good to see you are still haunting the place.

Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to put this up in both places just to make sure you see it.

Good to hear from you,

Yeah, but at least a pack of gum returns the favor with bubbles, fruity/minty flavors, juice-filled centers, improved dental hygiene, and random sexual encounters (or, at least that what i've seen in advertisments). Epinions only offers one of these, and it usually involves bending over.

I'm glad you'll be getting one of these titles - report to follow, please.

Man, I have to admit, I've only heard of a couple of these... Waylon Jennings, yeah...um...

I think I've been mainstream far too long.. I Promise to check out at least one of these real soon.

P.S-Sorry that ya only made $ 3.85 in November. I squandered my 60 cents on a pack of gum. Peace.

Currently sharing a house with a Nigerian guy who used to buy his weed at the Kulakuta Republic and go to the beach most weeks for day-long Fela gigs. He regularly reminds me of this to make me hate him even more.

another good reissue of the last year comes from Sub Pop, of all labels, and it reverses the usual vinyl is cheaper dynamic. They put out a full-length Radio Birdman cd that I'm listening to right now. I could never even find their vinyl, let alone afford it.

Good list--and you have the Gene Harris show on me, BTW.

along with those from xiphoid - which insure I should never summon enough hubris to write a music review. Unless from around the end of a Sting Cheese DVD, and then only fleetingly. Waylon I know and love, but many of the others are brand spankin' new to me. Thanks for the shopping list. Your conviction convinces.

martsmonkey, you’ll really like Vermont and Centro-Matic. They’re on small labels so you might have to search a bit, but Vermont has a new one due in February so watch the new release bins.

Future Pilot AKA, eh? Usually I’d just take your word for it, but in the hopes of prodding a review out of you, I’ll wait until you post on it. Please?

Oh, and you know just how much I love receiving subterrainian copralitic orbs in the post — it’s a soft spot.

--------------------

Gimme a N and a F and P. Hey now, nobody classes up the joint like you, post-wise or comment-wise. I miss ya so sorely that I’ve stopped by your “other” hangout a couple-a-times — I just don’t have the time to do both.

--------------------

brotherman — Gosh it helps, but don’t it? And no exchange with you would be complete without at least one suggestion. I’ve been yelling it from tree tops for years, but country music got a great gift when Connie Smith started singing. You want youself some honesty…

OK, maybe I'm a bit more spreadI stop in far less than before at EP, but then you'll just never know, will you? And when I do, it'll be that much better, right?

cheers, and best for the holidays my friend.

You know, you're the second person I've seen shout out Vermont in the last year. Otherwise, I'd never have even heard of 'em.

What with yer and exile's lists, I'monna have all sorts of stuff to keep my ears contented in the New Year--especially with the new Amoeba Music down here in lala land.

Future Pilot AKA--Tiny Waves, Mighty Sea
Drop everything. Go out and get it now. You'll dig it the most.

And expect some real real underground shit in the mail.

Re: Beaten To The Punch (Reply to this comment)
by Christoff

John Renborne - He’s not the guy who also works with Robin Williamson, is it?

Free - Yes, I always dug on Paul Rodgers, even the Firm-stuff.

I’ve never heard of Roy Bookbinder or Fats Kaplan, but anything called Git Fiddle Shuffle would definitely garner my attention. And Blue Goose; gotcha (is it mostly blues/folk kinda material?).

David Ackels, now that’s what we’re talking about; Undiscovered Gems. (I’ve got “Subway To The Country”).

As far as this Blood Group band goes, you see, I don’t need to keep up with what’s new, because I’ve got coolness like yourself around to keep me in check. But as far as the “ya’ll heard it here first”-thing goes, that’s all well and good, I just don’t know how big of an audience you’ll get. But, for what’s it’s worth I went back and re-read that post, and now that I know you a bit better, I can unabashedly call you out as the blatant name-dropper that you are. I mean, sheesh, you blow off words like Can, Fall, Orton, Scratch, Lucinda, and stereoLab like they’re the friggin’ ingredients in a bunt cake.

Touché, Herr McCarthy, touché.

Beaten To The Punch (Reply to this comment)
by ericexile
Christoff-

I thought about doing the same thing but I found a good number of records this year that scratched my itch. Although here's a short list of recent dusty finger discoveries:

John Renborne-Faro Annie
Free-S/T
Roy Bookbinder and Fats Kaplan-Git Fiddle Shuffle (now searching for anything on the Blue Goose imprint, keep your eyes open for me)
David Ackels-American Gothic

all analog, thank you very much.

Couldn't agree more about the Fela and ISB. I'm not nearly the jazzbo to comment on the RR Kirk but I do have a couple of the discs and have spent more than one evening with a bottle of wine contemplating his v. soulful and groovy sounds.

As far as Songs:Ohia, all I can say is , "Yup." Thanks.

Don't know if I agree w/your assessment of Josh Rouse, he didn't entirely move me but w/Kurt Wagner lyrics, I'll have to go to the well again.

Please don't miss my friend's band the Blood Group on Darla imprint Le Grand Magestry. Their first EP came out this summer, on which I wrote a pretty pitiful epinion. The new record, Volunteers, distributed through Darla should be out in a couple of months. It's a huge step up, they're going to be all over the place (ya'll heard it here first) and I know how much you care about keeping up with the trends.

The sentiment about Ep is dead on - Ramble on,
