Yum! (Reply to this comment)
by miselainis
I haven't had breakfast yet!
I'll put these on my list for a future trip to SF. I visited Haight Street about 10 years ago and really enjoyed it.
If you ever get to Dallas, try Breadwinners on McKinney Street. It's wonderful! Eat in the courtyard if it's nice (read: spring or fall). It's almost like New Orleans!
Delicious review!

So - find any dives to your liking in LA? I've been to a few places down there but mainly for shows and not just for hanging out. The feeling I get though is that LA bars are very different - there's a lot of pretension and cooler-that-thou non glances.

Ah yes - the Haight bars - nothing like So Cal... I don't go as much since some friends got hurt at Deluxe.
The Gold Cane's my watering hole of choice. It's a good, ol' fashioned dive bar, which is why I dig it. In fact, that's the only Haight Street bar I really go to...
So, whereabouts in SoCal? I ask because I moved from there around two years ago - I can tell you the best places to scarf on breakfast in San Diego...
'Fraid I'm smack dab in the middle of Hollydumb. Two blocks away from the walk of fame. Ack.
As much as I love All You Knead, though, I'm partial to the Crepevine for SF breakfast... Aw, now I'm hungry again...

You sir, are a bonafide All You Knead fanatic. I'm a once-every-two-months-kind of All You Kneader... Oh, and stop with the Potato Buzz! I could go for a Potato Buzz right now!

Weighing in... (Reply to this comment)

There was a point (before I moved down to SoCal... Ack) where I ate at All You Knead a good 5 times a week. Not being much of a breakfast guy, though, I usually dig on the Potato Buzz.
On of my favorite SF bars is on Haight St., too. Damn. Now I'm all nostalgic and shiyat. Sigh.
Rock on.

Smoked Applewood Bacon. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm (Reply to this comment)
by megugrrrl
Mr. E - Oh yes, the Squat and Gobble is another great spot for fat omlettes... I like their coffee there too. I've never heard of Home Plate but will take both of your words for it.
I can always talk about, write about, and read about breakfast too. Eggs, bacon, cheese, pancakes, butter, and anything else that induces Sunday afternoon comas - bring it on.

I used to be... (Reply to this comment)
by Mr.Eyore
I dyed in the wool All You Knead man. Couldn't imagine anything better than those eggs benedict nd those heaping piles of taters... until I had some Pork Store hash browns, those perfect loose cakes of buttery goodness. And once I had the eggs florentine with smoked applewood bacon added in, I was sold. The only problem is that the waits re so frequently longer at Pork Store. But if your hangover is powerful enough, and you don't make a sunday Amoeba run till 3 o'clock, you can get into both places in a second.
I also occasionally stop at Squat and Gobble -- what, half a block down -- when I have to have a chicken pesto crepe.
As for 4-1-1's suggestion, Home Plate is great, if you are unavoidably stuck in the Marina. Home made scones, home made jam, mmmm. But I've gotten bad fish there so...
Okay, could I talk any more about this stuff? It's sunday at 4:00 and I haven't eaten yet, obviously.
Great job, as always.

Oooh! Double root canal? That's pretty intense! I hope you get better soon - too much mushy food can't be good for a person.

I love reading restaurant reviews, but I have got to tell you...reading this one just made me foam at the mouth. I just had a double root canal and have been unable to eat anything with any consistency. It's been oatmeal, soup, and anything else I can gnaw or mush. Man I am so hungry!!! I would really like to try this "brench" place! If I ever get there, I think I will!

By adhering to a rule that has served me infallibly; eg, never eat at restaurants with punny names, (ThaiFoon, The Daily Grind, Wok and Roll, and a host of heinous others) I'm forced to go with The Pork Store.
Good review.

One place I always liked in Frisco was a small breakfast place called "Home Plate" ...I think down Bay or Lonmbard, I can't recall. Just remember the pancakes.
