I loved shopping at Computergeeks, and spent hundreds of dollars over the years, until I realized how much I had bought was "really bad". In all fairness, Perhaps 50-70% of it was "good", but let me qualify the bad ones:
- Premise: They buy things other people don't want (surplus, old models, etc). "OK" much of the time.
- Some times those items are "liquidated" (like CG).
Ex 1: Computer table - one bigger higher with adjustable slope for laptop, one lower to side for ?? (drink?). Issue: SINGLE PIPE with "pop its rivets if you tighten it too much" tightening screw. Picture mounting a tray to a horizontal pipe with NO bracing, just a single screw clamp. Got 2, gave one as gift, GOT IT BACK, both now headed for TRASH (or remove HW and add useful legs, or add single angle brace between vertical and edge of tables. Found "V2" of product elsewhere, it has bracing, etc, so they "liquidated" the bad design (To CG).
Ex 2: Inexpensive "plug-and-play" USB HD adapter cables: Plug and play, as in "see it as mass storage, but not a hard drive"???. Every other (of quite a few) I tried showed up as HARD DRIVES, you can use, format, etc.
Ex 3: $9.99 4" (or so) Plasma balls - bought 2, Worked about 2-3 days, then refused to show anything except when (1) heated or (2) touched. (no more waving fronds of plasma). (if you researched, you could see the "plasma" arcing to the base, not to the glass globe.
Ex 4: Dual fan hard drive coolers. YAY! Put one on every hard drive? Sure! AFTER A FEW MONTHS I could almost COUNT THE RPM, they were so slow (Est: 10 RPS vs a "blur"). I had to remove covers and oil to get them to "spin like they should". ["VIO" label; doesn't appear on current "red" and "black" products, but looks like from same manufacturer]
Ex 5: CD Cases (look like a "scallop" sea shell - EXTREMELY flimsy, dull colors, cheap cheap cheap. (but they hold CDs/dvds). I wouldn't have bought in a "store" had I seen them.
Things that I recall that were OK: silly electric toothbrush sized thing with 4 leather "flappers" for cleaning screen; wheeled "dufflebag" with extending handle;
Last order: $500!!!
