Re: A few years later, still interesting (Reply to this comment)

I wish it were enough too Patty. I don't regret the breast lift/reduction but I would never do that again. The face thing - yup - I'm thinking about a bit of tightening maybe in the fall when it hits 5 years. jo
PS glad this was helpful.

A few years later, still interesting (Reply to this comment)
by PattyTherre, in Wellness & Beauty
I read this after reading your latest on Botox.
If I ever was thinking that someday I would want a surgical procedure, this helped me to realize I do NOT ever want to go through any of that.
Botox or Restalyine someday, maybe, but I would never go through all you did optionally.
Everyone has their reasons and I am glad you look and feel better now but dude! Too much could go wrong for me to put my face in ANYONE's hands.
Very informative and actually got me off the fence about what I might or might not do someday as my looks/vanity are a part of me and I hate the thought of seeing myself age. Still, I hope that good skin care, good genes, and a little Botox when the time comes will be enough to satisfy me.
Informative as always.

I read every word with great interest. I, too, am developing jowls and hate the way it ages me. I kidded the surgeon that operated on my skin cancer sites that a little slip of the scalpel might happily remove ten years from this face. He had absolutely no sense of adventure or humor.
You definitely have me thinking in a new direction. I was going to wait until I needed more than just the jowls removed but your review gave me pause for thought.
Good for you, darling Jo and you do look wonderful!

Thanks for the excellent story. At 57, I doubt if I would go through all of that. My skin is still pretty nice, my only thought would be to get my eyes done, and then I would rather spend the money on a good vacation. Merriem

Hi,
You really gave readers a thorough account of your surgeries. I hope you won't need any more. Glad that you are mostly pleased with the results. I'm sure others who are considering the same surgeries will appreciate the details of your treatment, pain and recovery.
See you again. Happy birthday!

I think years in the sun with baby oil and iodine as suntan lotion may have done me in. Not sure any product could prevent that damage and my genetics. People have to start young. My girls always wear sunscreen. It drives me nuts when I see people who are really tan from hours in the sun or from a tanning booth. jo

Well, Jo, (Reply to this comment)

..You have done it again. More information than most people would gather in a lifetime....all in one article.
Thanks for sharing such a personal journey in a way that all of us can learn from.
Due to my diet, I have always looked a lot younger than I am. It has always been fun to have younger people think that I am their age or younger.
However, I realize that time will not stay still. Someday I will look older, and the things I never cared about suddenly become important.
Funny how the natural 60's attitude of living free and natural takes a 180, eh?
With Facercise and some of the nicest products on the market for facial skin (ABSOLUE from Lancome is phenomenal) many people can avoid the expensive lengths you have had to go to to feel better about how you look.
However, should any of us be in a position to have the surgeries that you have, it is nice to know that someone has gone before us and left a map....
Great job, Jo.

It's an accomplishment to be around for 50 years. Hell, I don't even know if I'll be around for that long!
As usual, great review!
Keep writing them!

I just reread this review, and it is absolutely wonderful, so I revised my rating from a lowly VH to the highest I could give you, the coveted MH.
Great job!

Jo, another candid, well-expressed 'Jo-signature' review! For two years, now, exactly what I expect from YOU, radical (yes, though you say 'NO') sister that you are. Thanks for the true picture, yet again. And, in my book, you are beauty-personified. Glad you didn't leave us, permanently. Your sensible reasoning is needed here. (plus, selfishly I will admit, your presence and 'friendship' I'd miss; you've shared many of the things and times as have I; see, 'I know where you're comin' from' **lol).
Take care, stay beautiful, and Happy (belated) New Year to you, your honey of a husband, and the 'kids'!

A Great Read... (Reply to this comment)

Congratulations on the surgery and the fact that you are pleased with it. I found this to be really informative and thank you for that. As for me, I'd have it in a heart beat at this stage of my life, being 54 and when leaning forward and the face droops till you stand erect again, well, let's just say that even after standing back up the face is still sagging. lol It's time to save the money. :) Nothing beats feeling good about yourself right ?

Wow, so glad it turned out well for you and you and hubby are pleased with the results. I could never do anything like this, but having stayed at the same weight all my life should keep my skin pretty firm for a long time. I would be very interested in more prevention tips, too, but this was very informative nonetheless. Great job.

Wonderful review (Reply to this comment)
by SurgRN911
I have been on the other end of many of the surgeries you wrote of, your descriptions are very accurate. I liked you stressed the importance that revisions may be required, surgery despite what any one likes to believe in NOT an exact science. We can only estimate outcomes, because each of us is so different. This review should put anyone thinking about these procedures a good base line. As for me I'll take the wrinkles and the gray hair, I earned everyone of them, and I wear my red badge of courage with honor. Besides I may not live long enough to see everything through to completion. I am happy you are pleased, and that's what counts. Once again great review and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!
