Sun or Snow-To Cadillac We Go

Written: Feb 02 '02
Pros:Clean, Warm & Inviting, Large Lobby, Full Continental Breakfast
Cons:Pricier than other hotels in town
The Bottom Line: Clean, pleasantly staffed, and family oriented, the Hampton Inn in Cadillac is a great place for the family to stay.

THE BASICS
*LOCATION: The hotel is located off highway 131, on the south end of Cadillac. 131 is currently being expanded to go further north, around Cadillac instead of through Cadillac.

*APPEARANCE: The hotel is rectangular and three stories tall. It looks like a basic hotel. No fancy grounds, just simple well cared for grass, and clean grounds.

*PARKING: Parking is available in the lot that encircles the hotel. You can park near whichever hotel door is closest to your room.

THE LOBBY
The lobby is warm and inviting. It is done in a "northern country" style theme, complete with fireplace. If you are a night owl, and the rest of your family are asleep come to the lobby to sit on a sofa in front of the fire. If you'd rather watch television, just turn on the large screen TV and choose a channel.

THE STAFF
The staff is polite and very competent. From the front desk clerks to the laundry associates, it is evident they take pride in their work. If you need anything just ask.
THE ROOMS
The Rooms
The hotel has your standard style room with a bedroom area and bathroom. You can get a room with two double beds, a king bed, or a suite (although I've never stayed in the suite). Adjoining rooms are available.

In addition to the bed(s) each room contains a long dresser with four drawers, an armoir for hanging clothes in, two waste buckets, a television, a night stand, and a telephone.

A basic, decent sized bathroom contains the necessary bath tub/shower, toilet, and sink.

PROS
*CLEAN: The rooms are always clean. We've never had a room that had not been well cleaned.

*COFFEE: Each room comes equipped with a coffee maker and coffee, both caffienated and decaf. Also included in the coffee basket is a hot chocolate mix.

*HAIR DRYER: On the bathroom wall there is a hair dryer with high and low settings. No need to bring your own.

*MIRROR: On the outside of the bathroom door there is a full length mirror. Since it's on the outside, not on the inside, one person can use it while the other is showering, without it steaming up.

*CRIBS: Cribs are available by request. It is a small portable crib that is more suitable for a younger baby. Once they can pull themselves to standing these cribs are not tall enough in my opinion.

*NONSMOKING ROOMS: Non-smoking rooms are available. When you make your reservation they will ask you if you prefer a smoking or nonsmoking room.

*NEED MORE TOWELS?: Just call the front desk and they shall deliver.

*TELEPHONES: You can make unlimited local calls, and can call room to room. You will need a calling card for long distance calls, or you can have them charged to your room. Each phone has a seperate phone line and internet connection line.

*DATA PORT HOOKUPS: There are two ports on the phone to hook up your laptop. You can stay connected.

CONS
*HOLD THAT DOOR! The doors are heavy and shut loudly. If you have inconsiderate neighbors you may hear a lot of door slamming.

*NO BATHROOM FAN: There is no fan in the bathroom so the mirror in the bathroom will fog up.

THE POOL
*The hotel has a nice sized pool with beautiful sea life painting on the walls. The pool ranges from 3 feet to 5 feet deep. There are steps leading into the pool, and a ladder on the other end for entering and leaving the pool. Posted on the wall are pool rules.

*Pool hours are 6am to 10pm.

*Pool towels are kept in the pool area. There is also a container to throw used towels in. We have never seen the pool area run out of towels.

*In the pool room there is also a hot tub. The hot tub is large enough for 5-6 people. On the wall is a dial up control that can be set for 5 15 minutes. The jets only run when the timer has been set.

*There is a rest room in the pool area. No need to run small children back to the room every five minutes.

BREAKFAST
Included in the price of the room is a continental breakfast. Not just one of the coffee and donuts style breakfasts but a breakfast with variety.

You can choose from cereal, donuts, hard boiled eggs, toast, english muffin, bagels, apples, bananas, oranges, yogurt, string cheese, and any seasonal items they choose to put out. There is also a beverage area complete with cold milk, orange juice, apple juice, punch, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and cold & hot water. There is a staff member present refilling whatever starts to run low.

After selecting your tray of food walk into the sitting area that is filled with tables. You can choose a table with a view of the fireplace or near a window.

EXTRAS
*MILK & JUICE AVAILABLE ALL DAY: Children thirsty? Just run down to the lobby for a free, healthy drink.

*VENDING AVAILABLE: If soda and chips are more your style there are vending machines on the first floor selling just what you crave.

*EASY CHECK OUT: On the morning of you check out an account statement will be slid under your door. If you left a credit card on file with the front desk, you can review the statement, sign it, call the front desk to notify them when you depart, and just slide the room keys into the statement to drop in the drop box at the exit doors.

*CABLE TELEVISION: Each room contains cable tv, including cartoon network and toon disney.

*NINTENDO GAME RENTAL: You can rent nintendo game rental time by the hour. If you have a credit card on file just follow the on screen directions. Once your hour is up it will notify you and ask if you wish to continue. Any unused game time is saved for later use. If you are paying cash you will have to go down to the lobby and pay in advance.

*MOVIE RENTAL: You can also rent movies to watch in your room. Just follow the onscreen directions. The movies are usually new video releases.

CONCLUSION:
We stay at the Hampton Inn in Cadillac, Michigan 4-6 times per year, for 2-3 nights at a time. We have never been displeased with our stay. Our children always have a good time there, and it makes for a more pleasant time for us.
