Impertinent Thoughts on Pertinent Subjects V

The Bottom Line Some more acid tongue spewing by the King of Rock himself.

Screw the intro, I got some venom to spit...

* Am I the only one who is rather amused that right after she died, Aaliyah became some sort of "legend in the making?" I mean come on people, she had a few hits, had a decent voice, and was a decent actress, but to act like she was the second coming of Madonna or even Janet Jackson is patently ridiculous. No one even seemed to give a flying f*ck about her until she died. And that's the truth, I don't pull the PC bullsh*t.

* When I hear Britney Spears say she's a virgin, am I the only one who thinks of Dot Matrix from Spaceballs running in with her virgin alarm at the first sign of trouble?

* It was a dark day in my musical taste history when I found out LFO were the ones who sang that "Every Other Time" song that I really really liked.

* Seeing Blue Man Group being one of the hug recipients in the new Dave Matthews video was so very cool...if you live in one of the 4 cities where BMG perform (or within an hour's or two drive), I strongly suggest you catch them.

* I finally got to see The Who tear the roof off of MSG on the Concert for New York City. No, really, they didn't put Destiny's Child (studio magic anyone?) or the Backstreet Boys in their rightful place or anything, did they?

* When was someone gonna tell me that Savage Garden broke up? That's excellent news...they were the worst of the groups that write the same songs over and over again.

* Memo to CBS: re-airing the Michael Jackson concert from November on my birthday (January 9th, write it down people, I expect gifts!) was NOT on my wish list.

* So help me God, by the end of 2002, everyone who writes regularly in the music section will be afraid to use the term "grunge" to define a type of music. I f*cking hate that term, so all you f*ckers who are using it, STOP IT ALREADY. It's amazing to me how many great writers on this site don't buy into the media bulls*it but bought into THAT media bulls*it.

* EMI is trying to buy out Mariah Carey's one album old contract. That's one songbird who was due for a fall from grace. Maybe she'll stay knocked down and won't come back and annoy the ever-living p*ss out of me ever again.

* Is it just me, or is there something just oh so right about The Beatles having their first ever #1 album of the year charts-wise happening in the same year George Harrison dies?

* Speaking of year-end charts, it's heresy that 3 of the top 4 acts on rock radio for 2001 are Godsmack (hey Sully, take your own advice and "JUST GO AWAY"), 3 Doors Down (please follow Godsmack's lead, thank you), and The Beavis Band, aka Linkin Park. The only band worth anything that was in the top 4 came in at #2, Staind. Then again, at least Creed didn't make it 5 years in a row as the #1 played rock band.

* Message to radio stations: it is possible that a song should NOT cross over 15 times. Nickelback's How You Remind Me is the best example of this. I keep on expecting to turn on the local hip hop station and hear a rap remix of that damned song. Enough is enough already!

* One more message to radio stations: South Side and Hanging By a Moment are both OVER a YEAR old! Please stop playing the hell out of them. Thank you.

* Lastly, I'm really, truly happy to see If You're Gone crack the top ten of the year's biggest singles. Something about this song has started to really strike a chord with me, and it's the first Matchbox Twenty song I can truly say I've enjoyed hearing over and over again.
