but I just want to offer my congratulations to you on your success. I, too, have quit several times, and am trying to quit again, which is why I'm reading all these epinions now. This time quitting seems much harder than before, why, I don't know. I started again after 10 mos. the last time I quit because of the weight gain. Nothing worked, and I kept putting on weight, which drove me nuts. I found out that after about a year your metabolism gets back to normal. Unfortunately, I found this out after I started smoking again. Sure enough, I lost all the weight without even trying once I started smoking again. It really does affect your metabolism! So, if that has been an issue for you, take heart. You're past your year date now, and it should get easier.

Best of luck to you--you've done it!

Yeah, Jamie, one and we will die! Heck, especially with the new little one on the way, soon! I keep coming back here to read about our exploits and success. Congrats on the past 11 months, my friend! John

I have been a non smoker for nine months now, and I won't lie and say there hasn't been times that I haven't wanted one. I consider myself a smoke-a-holic and similiar to an alcoholic, if I take one drag of a cigarette, I know I'll return to smoking. I keep that in the back of my mind and think of it often. Best of luck to you! jamie s.

I liked this review so much I printed it out. I have wanted to quit smoking for years... just can't get up the strength/courage/whatever to stop. I keep saying that when my life is at last in order and I am at peace, I will do it. Trouble is, will that day ever come? Life will always have its troubles, its ups and downs. None of us are ever truly "in order" or "in peace"... at least not by my impossibly high standards. LOL!

With that in mind, I intend to keep the printout of your review, read it over and over until I am ready to quit, then read it regularly for support. I'm SOOOO happy for you that you were able to kick the habit! What a shining example. :o)

LOVE your review,
Kay

There has never been a better time to start living smoke-free (Reply to this comment)

Remember that you are not really "quitting" something, but rather "starting afresh" on a new smoke-free lifestyle - I find that a positive mindset is more useful.

With all the medical help and with your family's support I know you can succeed. Please keep reporting back (via comments and updates) as you progress throughout the year.

Go for it!

for everytime I dug into my ashtray for one of my old butts......I started in college, too, Jamie, and when my dad questioned me (he was an ex-smoker), I told him I can quit anytime. I'm sure outside of a really crappy first marriage, starting smoking was their biggest disappointment in me. They're both in heaven, I'm sure proud of me at this moment, being a non-smoker. Keep it going, Jamie!!!! John

Wow! I've made it six days with the help of nicorette, but I've smelled it a few times and I started to drool. This is going to be hard. I wonder if the craving will ever go away. Thanks for your encouragement! Jamie

You have set . . . (Reply to this comment)

. . . an important goal for yourself, Jamie.

[I thought that I hid my addiction well. Now most of my true friends and relatives tell me that they knew all along. The smell of one cigarette lingers on our clothes, hair, and skin. They just knew I wasn't ready to quit so they chose not to take me on.]

I consider myself a "recovering smoker". I say recovering because - even though I have not taken a drag in years - the craving is still there.

Each day I simply tell myself that I am not going to smoke "today". Tomorrow I'll tell myself all over again.

This was one of the hardest challenges that I ever faced. BUT IT IS WORTH IT!

You CAN do this.

Write On!

I know this is the hardest addiction for many people to fight. I know alcoholics and cocaine addicts that got away from their drugs, but can't stop smoking!

I encourage all smokers to ask their doctors for help. We have so many ways to help people quit.

Good luck to you! It's the best thing you can do for your health.

Thanks for sharing.

It's sickening when I think of what I have done to my body from this horrible addiction of smoking. But you sound really ready to do this and succeed. I wish all the best. Now I have to decide that I want to end this addiction myself.

I've never understood the attraction to the nasty habit, but I do know that any ingrained habit and physical craving is murder getting rid of. It'll get easier after a while, though. Start learning a new hobby like a new way of cooking or something. Take a complete supplement.
