Pros: Sammy is still making music 23 years after the first Montrose CD!
Cons: Country music in some songs (err.. sorry, "American" music)
The Bottom Line: Good music for listening to while sipping on margaritas in Alabama. Seriously, though... only get this if you're a Sammy Hagar addict..

| shauncool's Full Review: Livin' It Up - Sammy Hagar & The Wabos |
I ran to the store and purchased this CD the day it came out and carefully listened to it 4 or 5 times. I'm a huge Hagar fan and wanted to let it sink in a bit.
The two songs Let Me Take You There & Sam I Am I had heard already (and perhaps you have too) - they get play on Classic Rock stations and were easy to find online to download a sample (I cant remember, but perhaps even on his official website, redrocker.com. Those are more like his last few CDs with a party rockin attitude. Let Me Take You There was actually released as a promo single over a year ago...
As for the rest of the disc
. Amazingly there is a bit of a country-twang to some of the songs. I heard him calling it "American Music" in an interview. The new version of Halfway To Memphis is country music if I've ever heard it!
So, if you're expecting Van Hagar type of pop rock or old Hagar type of hard rock, you will get neither with this disc. The got-to-go-party attitude he's been portraying is evident in the lyrics but not quite in the tempo of the songs. (except for Sam I Am & Let Me Take You There)
If you're a Hagar fan this is quite a different experience. I'm glad he kept with the hard rock tempo when I saw his concert a month ago - but it's not really evident on this CD.
BUT... His voice is still booming and awesome, even in the slow-tempo country style tracks... it's still Sammy!
I have not found myself singing along to any of the songs, so I'll give this 2.5 stars right now... maybe that will change with a few more dozen listens.
As of now, Let Me Take You There is my favorite track. It rocks the most by far.
Mr. Hagar has enough money coming in from his Cabo Wabo brand (Tequila & Cantinas) - he's going to play, record and release whatever kind of music he feels like. There are enough fans out there like myself who will buy anything he puts his name on to cover the costs of recording, mastering, pressing and distributing his CDs. Personally, I am hoping for another DVD from this current tour. His DVD releases are the best!!
I do, however, hope that his next CD has some catchy songs on it. This is the first time I've had this problem with any of this releases, all of which I own and listen to regularly.
