I bought a Dell 4100 1g Pentium 3 for work and a Gateway Performance 1.4 Pentium 4 for my home at the same time. The Dell worked great right out of the box, the Gateway was dead and it took a call to their customer service to determine the power supply connector was not attached to the motherboard. The Dell has a nice monitor than the Gateway but the Dell keyboard is nowhere as nice as the Gateway keyboard. I also like the Gateway case better than the Dells. If I had to choose between the Gateway and Dell I would choose the Gateway. They are really very close but I feel the components, case, and keyboard of the Gateway are better than those in the Dell. The Dell does have a better monitor. I ordered the Dell through their small business section on their webpage and they took the order without knowing anything about me or my company. They faxed a purchase commitment for me to sign and I faxed it back to them. The computer was delivered a few days later. This was much more straightforward than Gateway's ordering system where my delivery date was missed, the delivery status information from their customer service was conflicting and incorrect, and then a refund check was mailed to an old address where I had bought a system from years ago. Dell is much, much better than Gateway here.
