| DeRango's Full Review: Dungeon Keeper / Dungeon Keeper 2 for Windows |
For once a game comes along that dares to be different... Instead of being good! You put your evil Minions to work for you. I'm sick of training, helping, and working for the good. Screw that, I want death, decay, destruction, devastation, more death, rotting corpses, minions of dark evil things attacking the good, and the ability to control it all!!!
Why I bought the game
To tell you the truth I purchased this game because of the box style... It gives an excellent description of the game, along with a sexy picture of an anime chick, and a picture of the Horned Reaper.
Create your own Dungeon Empire
"Dig out your underground kingdom. Populate your dungeon with a variety of beasts-such as the Skeletons, Dark Elves, Trolls and even Warlocks. Prepare them for battle with training rooms, workshops and magical libraries. Command your hordes in frenzied battles against the invading forces of heroic good. Summon the dreaded "Horned Reaper" to deliver the final blow.
Thus you have read the basic back of the box and are now intrigued. I saw this and read on! I wanted to know how I could command a legion of evil and destroy the forces of good.
Read Forth my Son
Build a Dungeon --- Carve out a living, breathing underworld and attract a host of devilish creatures.
Be The Master --- Feed, train and entertain your dungeon's inhabitants, or slap them into submission.
Monstrous Warfare --- Send your legions into battle against righteous heroes and unleash devastating magic spells on the worthless good.
Wicked Perspective --- Reign from high above or control your minions from first-person viewpoint.
*Ok that got me thinking when I first read this, because I'm sick of shoot'em-up games. However, I really love how while moving your creatures around and getting them built-up, you can "posses" your creatures and become them! It is absolute everything you want and more. I became a skeleton and ravaged my way threw the front lines of the enemies. (Awesome game play)
Bag of Tricks --- This is my favorite part! Build traps, research spells, torture prisoners, and deceive your enemies.
*You can build traps like the spiked trap, gas trap, or sentry trap, and set them up (Where a blue print will come across the spot, then your workers in the workshop will start the building process, and finally once complete it will be fully operational where it can cause mass destruction...)
*When capturing prisoners (OMG this is so cool!) They get throw into your prison (if you have one). If you leave them in the prison they will either die and raise a skeleton, or you can put them in the torture chamber where they will either fry in the electric chair, or get pinned the wall for further "questioning." But if your prison is to crowded you can just simply SLAP them to death...
Vicious Variety --- Conquer a full campaign, play individual skirmishes or hone your skills in My Pet Dungeon mode.
Multiplayer Warfare --- Challenge your friends and foes through the Internet or Network of multiplayer modes.
Downloadable Updates --- Expand your underworld from the Dungeon Keeper 2 Website.
A Few More things
I. Build the dungeon of your Darkest Dreams: First, construct a nightmarish floor plan. Then direct your Imps (kind of like Peons in Warcraft Two) to dig out the tunnels, rooms, and chambers for your new home. Slap them around if they're not working fast enough.
II. Infest your Dungeon with Vile Beasts: Discover a portal so that evil creatures can find their way into your domain. Mine gold to pay their wages, build sleeping lairs for them to rest in and a hatchery where they can feed.
III. Put your Minions to work for you: Construct training rooms to improve the fighting skills of your Dungeons dwellers, a library where they can research and learn devious new magic spells, and a workshop to create fiendish new traps to thwart encroaching do-gooders.
IV. Entertain the creatures of your Dungeon: Keep your minions happy by creating casinos where they can drink and gamble. Or build a pit arena where they can sit back and enjoy the fights from a ringside seat. Torture Chambers are popular attractions for those who like it rough.
V. Battle the forces of good: fulfill your strategic role as the evil overlord, leading your wicked hoards in combat against those righteous heroes. Cast devastating spells to crush your enemies and support your minions. Or join the action at dungeon level by possessing your creatures and battling from first-person perspective using special spells and abilities.
ALL THIS AND MORE
Dungeon Keeper 2 is a wonderful game that gives you a chance to be bad! One major perk of beating levels is you get to see cute clips of your evil minions doing funny things.
Example when youre done beating a level the screen goes blank and says something like:
A Day At The Office : It shows that sexy anime chick beating a skeleton into submission using hilarious tools of destruction.
The game isn't that bloody so it wouldn't offend many people. I love hearing all the sound effects and battle cries of my creatures kicking some do-gooder's butt.
I hope you enjoy this wonderful game.
