Sometimes the best things in life are over looked. For this writer, the bouquet that rises from a snifter of Martell must be what Heaven smells like. And if Martell isn't served in Heaven, then I don't want to go. Trust me, there is no substitute. So many cognacs from France have I tried, that I'd be guilty of name dropping if listed here. And, If God ever asks me what I did to make the world a better place, well, I recommended Martell. Oh, you like my work, he'd say, surely.

Great stuff (Reply to this comment)

Being a working guy (make a respectable living but FAR from wealthy) I don't have a mint to spend on the finest Cognac. My taste in fine things (cigars, wristwatches, liquor, etc) far exceeds my income. It was nice to find an entry level Cognac this good. I even tried the Remy Martin VSOP and to be honest I prefer the Martell VS, and what's better is it's cheaper!

Let's also say that I am not a complete stranger to the better stuff. I was at a party recently with an open bar and was delighted by a few servings of Corvaisier XO. It didn't spoil my enjoyment of the Martell VS one bit. Martell VS is a great daily Cognac, for those who wish to have a "daily Cognac". I know I'm an oddball but it works for me. ;-)

Another note, I have high blood pressure that is rarely controlled by three daily medicines, and a moderate amount of this Cognac makes it drop like a rock into the very nice healthy range. Yes, Cognac is a potent vasodilator. (relaxes blood vessels, thus lowering pressure) Again, moderation is key. Too much alcohol is not good for any medical condition and I'm sure there is a share of Dr's who would not ever recommend any sort of drinking while under their care, but then you see, we have the French Paradox that they can't explain either...

Cognac is also loaded with the same antioxidants found in wine, with the Ellagic acid (a potent antioxidant) from the oak barrels in which it is aged. Taken in moderation Cognac is actually a healthy drink.

You can even have it while low carb eating because it is a distilled spirit with very little if any residual sugar. It won't cause you insulin to spike. Again, in moderation only.

So, instead of a glass of wine daily, I enjoy some Cognac to sip and savor whilst I unwind from the hectic workday.

Cheers!

A much beeter match for a cigar with this cognac (Reply to this comment)

I hear many people raving on the matching of a Monte Cristo cigar with this cognac. I strongly suggest you try a Martell Platinum torpedo
you can try them from the Martell Cigar Company

Wow... what a story. There is not a single Cognac that makes me react in this way. How interesting.

Thanks for reading, rating & commenting.

The very scent of Cognac... (Reply to this comment)

Makes me shudder and shiver and convulse. Dad's tradition every Christmas Eve is to treat the 21 and ups in the family to a glass of Courvosier (spelling?) by the fire place. I always shake so much they throw me on the floor and try to cram their wallets in my mouth. Dad usually finishes mine. Ha!

Martell sounds like it might be smoother for me, but who am I to say? I'm just a beer lady. ;)

Great review!
