The Bottom Line A call for digital petitions; let your voice be heard by the epinions management, and maybe our ideas and suggestions may actually be worth something.
Alright, I've received a bit of feedback about my comments about lowering the minimum payout to those outside of the US from $100 to $50 or less, but there's still not a whole lot we can do about this. So, At this point I am asking for all of those who are effected by this notion that those outside the US should have to wait up to 10 times longer before they can receive a cheque for their work to sign a 'digital petition'. We, the reviewers of epinions.com, have a very small voice and are only allowed to express it at certain times (chats, some email, etc.) and our concerns are often overlooked or bushed off as foolish ideas. I am tired of being treated like a second party to this website. We ARE the people that keep this site alive and yet we continue to put up with continual financial cuts and a constant lack of respect. I do not want to go on a rant here, but I just think that we should all take a moment and think about how we are being treated by this company that we have constantly supported (some of us, for years) without hardly any recognition for our efforts. I am not calling for a strike or anything like that (though the idea had been brought up many times before); what I think we should do is have a digital petition whereby every concerned party may put their name via a comment on to a topic that they feel strongly about. I will start the first petition directly after this review. I will then link my petition to this review and anyone else that wishes to start a petition may let me know and I will put their link on this review as well. I think this may be a decent idea, and may attract those in power to do something about our suggestions. I am not asking for an 'uprising' against the management of epinion.com, I am only asking for a voice. NOTE: I am not looking for feedback by way of ratings for this or any petition I may start. Instead, if you could please let people know about my efforts, I will be forever greatful. Thank you. What to do How to sign: If you want to sign a petition that is started by either myself or anyone else then just click on the area to the right of the review where you would normally leave a comment and just leave a short message showing your support (it will not let you leave a blank message). To view the petition, coppy the link (such as http://www.epinions.com/content_2481299588) and insert it into the address bar in your browser. How to start a petition Follow the format that I lay out when I write my first petition in a few minutes, and then contact me at: dereckg@mysun.com. In your email, please include a link to your petition, and I will post it in an update of this document you are currently reading. I will be honest, I don't know if this has or has not been done before, but I certainly have not heard about it. I do not think it is a radical idea or a crazy notion that will never work. I think it is perfectly feasible and (if enough attention is drawn to it), it could easily help people have their ideas for the future of epinions heard. Anyway, thank you for considering this idea, the list of current registered petitions is listed below. More will be listed once they are made available. REGISTERED PETITIONS - as of Jan. 20, 2002 To lower the minimum payout for residents outside of the US - http://www.epinions.com/content_2481299588 IMPORTANT UPDATE Brought to my attention by Mr. Howard Creech Apparently I was right before in assuming that this has been done before. Here is a link to a message that as posted in may of last year: http://www.epinions.com/user-review-59CF-3A8306A-390E3E33-prod6 Anyway, I will continue on with this for a while and see how much activity I can stir up. If there is enough support for something like this, then we might just be able to get things changed around. Thanks again Howard for keeping me informed! If anyone else has something to say about this, let me know, or write your own review about it. Thanks. -Dereck G. |
