My forte is music (Reply to this comment)

I can crank it out by the ream.
lyrics are my stumbling block.

Once I wrote a sample verse & refrain with music and sent it to a publisher mainly cuz I racked my brain and couldn't think of any other good words.

They called me and said they liked it did I have the rest of the words. And right there on the phone the remaining two verses just came I dictated it to them on the phone and I knew it was good just so. So the hard part was asking them to send me a copy of the words cuz nowhere had I written them down and I completely forgot what they were, only that I had that kachunk feeling I so rarely get, of yes, this is right. I had to make up a story about those getting thorwn out by mistake.

I found this on a google search for songwriting. I had always been able to write poetry with ease and little thought.

Not every poet though can write a good song but the desire has been there in me a long time to do so.

I have a very special reason now for wanting to try this again...

Thank you for this article. It will help me a lot.

There are no rules in songwriting (Reply to this comment)
by FilboidStudge
Your assertion that there is some kind of list of rules to songwriting reminded me of the scene in "Dead Poet's Society" when the stuffy, old replacement to Robin Williams' character refers to a mathematical graph to teach the class about poetry. Rules to songwriting? Try telling this to Karlheinz Stockhausen, Bjork, John McEntire, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan or Squarepusher. They'd laugh in your face.

All my love,

STUDGE.
