I thought (Reply to this comment)

"Cheers!" was very appropriate. Made me chuckle. I lived in Canoga Park a looong time ago but for only 9 months. I don't think I made it to any of the bar scenes. Besides, I was already vomiting what with my being with child and all.

Jumbo's Clown Room now there's a name. It just makes you stop and pause, doesn't it? It makes me think about a movie I saw of 5 vignettes; all taxicab related. I know you would like it. In fact, I think one of the vignettes takes place in Hollywood. But one of the others in NYC I think, stars Rosie Perez. Her boyfried has a clown sitting in the front passenger seat. He is out of costume though. The driver of the cab goes to pick Rosie up at a corner. They're arguing at the corner. They walk towards the cab and get in - she climbs into the back seat and says in her PO'd accented way, "Who is THIS clown?"

Everytime somebody says the word clown, I think of this scene and I have to stifle myself.

Well, if there wasn't a category for this, there should have been. This was interesting and well-covered. Kudos to you.

two blocks from Spaceland?! I will definitely let you know if I ever make it down there!

(Hmmm. Maybe moving it to travel wouldn't be so bad - if I were looking through eeps before a visit to LA, yours would probably be the most helpful for me!)

Hello Edward, (Reply to this comment)

This was interesting information, but it doesn't exactly speak about California or Nevada beers (like Stone Brewing, Anchor Steam, AleSmith, etc.)

Actually, I would say that this review would be best posted in a travel category... general itineraries, Los Angeles, etc.

Whatever... it was still interesting. The best place to drink in L.A., of course, is my place. Well, at least in my experience. Another good place: Barney's Beanery. Used to like the Fox Inn, too, but too many UCLA patrons there and the center of attraction passed away....

Cheers,

Boardner's is good, I was remiss in omitting.. And as far as the Sunset Strip goes, the Rainbow bar and grill is an amusing time warp into the world of '80s metal.
Phillipe's is a great restaurant as well.

sorry it's a bit off-topic. I looked for a closer match, but didn't find it. I might have seen if there was a Hollywood in travel, I guess...I've already done one on jazz clubs under Los Angeles and wasn't sure if I could do another one there.

Yes, the burgandy is the one you think it is. Definitely check out the Taix--if you are a carnivore, you can't beat the filet mignon special on Mondays.

I'll check out your recent LA reviews.

I've been curious about the 3 of Spades...but sounds like I've done well to give it a miss. Mr. T's is great. I imagine that the first rock and roll shows in the 50s were a lot like shows there--about half of the crowd there to dig the show, and the other half bemused hilbillies who wonder what the hell is going on at their regular bar.

Yeah. What a bummer that Al's Bar is gone. The woman that used to book Al's now books shows at the Garage, but Al's was a piece of history.

Glad you liked it, and let me know next time you go to Spaceland---I live two blocks away.

What a neat idea! Factotum's Bar Tour. I've been to a few places on your list, the Good Luck and like you, didn't like it too much. I did like the Bruce Lee outfits the bartenders wore, but not the $11 fruity drinks. I prefer Akbar. And I dig Spaceland. The worst bar I ever went to in LA was the Three of Spades or something like that. It has no name out front and it's as dark as can be, which is great because you can't see all the wannabees. (Oh and the Horse and Carriage Pub gets on my nerves as well.)

Have you ever been to that converted bowling alley Mr. T's or something? That was pretty entertaining.

Actually I remember Al's Bar but hear it's gone!

So, at Jumbo's Clown Room (my what funny names these LA bars have) you mean I can sit next to Motorhead Lemmy?! Huh?

not puzzled anymore,

Although not really on topic you are speaking of my neighborhood so I decided to read.

I used to hang at the Frolic Room when I worked in Hollywood in the early 90's as well as Boardner's when I lived in Hollywood in 94.

The place on Cahuenga is that across from the magazine stand and next to a sex shop, if so it was called another name when I last was there.

When I lived in Los Feliz in 89-91 I frequented Tam O Shanter Inn bar that had music and piano bar, plus I lived in the complex across the street so that was the easiest place to go to.

During 91-93 I was in Glendale up the street and headed over to Clancy's a nice sports bar to take in boxing and the Super bowl. I loved that I could run a tab and pay at the end of the day.

I have not heard of the Sport Stop and live closer to TAIX but have yet to try that place.

Sounds like some good spots you wrote on. You did not mention Boardner's though for Hollywood.

I never really ventured the places in Silver Lake. I recently wrote a review on the Highland and Hollywood complex, Hamburger Hamlet, Red Robin and Philippe's downtown.
