| techmommy's Full Review: Pacific Neo Talk Omni Remote (Palm Pilot) |
When I first got my Palm IIIc, I thought it was a glorified dayplanner and organizer. I couldn't imagine why my husband got me one for Christmas - and even originally declined it and told him I thought it was too expensive and he should take it back! But soon my hubby was showing me all the cool things you can do with a PDA and the numerous software programs available, and I became a confessed Palm addict!
Omni Remote is one of those nifty little programs that I was actually happy to pay for to register! Since there is so much free software for PDA's, I generally avoid software that is not freeware. But once I tried the demo version of Omni Remote, I got hooked. Hey, I have seven kids and losing the remote control to any of our tv's is a daily occurrence that drives me up the wall. Omni remote assures me of always having a spare remote, since I always have my Palm with me.
The program is very versatile and actually quite easy to use, even for a novice PDA user. I just use it for our tv's, but you can use it for cable settings, VCRs, and other controls as well. To set up your own TV remote settings, you simply point your TV remote to your PDA so that the beam utility is lined up. Set the options to 'training' mode, and on screen messages will talk you through the rest of it from there. There's a helpful 'read me' document that goes with the program which gives in-depth information about how to 'train' your PDA to become your various remote controls.
It only takes a minute or two to train it, and, VOILA! You have an additional remote control for your t.v. that has the same overall look and feel of your garden variety remote control. I was amazed at how well it worked, even from a distance. All in all, a nifty and incredibly useful utility. Go ahead, spoil yourself and pop for the $20 to buy this program, you will use it more than you'll know!
