On a cold winter night, a homeless skunk went house hunting. As he prowled around a small house in a quiet neighborhood, he felt a breath of warm air coming from a small crack. Deciding to check it out, he dug around the hole until it was large enough for him to squeeze through. Warmth was radiating from an old fashioned floor furnace and the skunk decided this would make a dandy home. To ensure his privacy, he sprayed some of his perfume around.
As I was sitting at my computer, I suddenly caught the overwhelming and unmistakable odor of skunk. (I thought they hibernated in winter!) I could scarcely breathe, the musk was so thick.
Since there was nothing I could do in the middle of the night, I suffered until morning. Then I called the animal control officer. He brought out a small animal trap. I had the trap for a week and all it caught was the neighbors cat--three times.
The smell was nauseating. Someone told me to put mothballs under the house and the skunk would leave. Skunks don't like the scent of the moth balls. I tried it, and sure enough the skunk vacated the premises.
However his ghostly presence lingered on. Essence of skunk combined with moth balls isn't any more pleasant than skunk alone.
Now, enter my hero. An eight ounce bottle of clear liquid called ODORCIDE. According to the label, this product is three products in one. Air Freshener, fabric refresher and odor eliminator. It was fairly cheap. Less than $3. The big question was: Would it work?
I purchased a bottle and took it home. Hopefully, I sprayed the air in each room. Then I cautiously took a breath. NO MORE SKUNK OR MOTH BALL ODOR!
For a few weeks, the odor would return. A few squirts from my trusty little bottle quickly took care of the problem. This odor eliminator works equally well on normal house hold odors. It keeps the garbage pail fresh and helps with the occasional odor of the litter box.
I do not know what the active ingredients are as I could find none listed.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE (from the label)
CLOTHING: Spray OdorCide evenly over entire garment. As the garment dries the odor will be eliminated.
CARPET: Spray evenly over the contaminated area and let air dry.
PET URINE: Pet urine penetrates deep into the nap of the carpet so it is necessary to to saturate the area and after two minutes blot with a dry towel. OdorCide is so effective on pet accidents that they will not return to the spot
FABRIC: Spray evenly over contaminated area and let air dry.
ROOM: Hold upright and spray toward center of room. For lingering odors liberally spray OdorCide into the return air ducts of the heating/air conditioning system to eliminate smoke and other foul odors from the entire house.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to test for color fastness on a concealed area of the garment, carpet or fabric.
CAUTION: Do not take internally. In case of ingestion, contact physician immediately. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of skin or eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
As with all chemical products, you need to keep this out of the reach of children.
If you can find this product, give it a try. I think you will find it very effective.
