For every good rap album or artist I have heard, I have heard 100 that are horrible. The following rap artist are so smooth you will never be able to listen to little bubble gum rap pretenders again. This a combination of the best artist and more important what cd's to buy. All are just about equal so I will not put numbers by them. Go out and buy all of the cd's you can find. On this list if I have more than one album listed next to the artist that means the albums are all great, but listed in order of importance.
JERU THE DAMAJA - 1} The Wrath of Math 2} The Sun Rises in the East
Jeru is one of the badest ever and he only has been able to put out three albums. He has the smartest lyrics out there. Guru found him and helped him come out with the above two albums, but he has not had much success since falling out with Guru.
WU-TANG CLAN 1)FOREVER 2)36 CHAMBERS
The WU is just so damn good it's scary, if I had to compare them to anything it would have to be to the the Rams in football (Patriots=EPMD). They have so much talent they almost stop giving other rappers a chance. The 9-member Rap clan is non-stop. Every member is just as talented as the next. RZA, Method Man, GZA, Ghost Face Killah and O.D.B. all have solo albums out but start with FOREVER.
EPMD 1}OUT OF BUSINESS 2)BACK IN BUSINESS
Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith are so bad they don't need to change their names for rap. You might have heard Erick Sermon on Rapper’s Delight with REDMAN. If I had to pick one Rap cd to recommend it would probably OUT OF BUSINESS.

The second best rapper in the world in my opinion. Rakim has lyrics and flow, earning respect from every rapper that lives today. One of the originals that made albums in the 80's with Eric B.
GANG STAR - 1) Hard to Earn 2) Moment Of Truth
Guru and his DJ, DJ Premier make what seems to be competition with beats vs. voice, you will hear this on "Mostly The Voice". DJ Premier is the best DJ in the world so he can keep up with Guru. Guru also makes Jazz / Rap albums called JAZZMATAZZ.
BEASTIE BOYS Paul's Boutique
One of the original pioners of rap had their first album Licensed To Ill come out in 1986, With songs like No Sleep Till Brooklyn and Brass Monkey. Paul's Boutique is also a classic along with Check Your Head.
METHODMAN REDMAN BLACKOUT
Methodman and Redman team up to make one of the best rap albums ever. This includes the single "How High" which they just made a movie entitled. Don't let that fool you this is not a commercial album.
DR. DRE THE CHRONIC
DRE has Snoop Dog creeping in the background on songs like Let Me Ride and Nuthin But A "G" Thang. Pure Classic.
The GETO BOYS 1) the Geto Boys 2) We can't be stopped
The self-titled album has the nastiest lyrics in the history of music, the Geto Boys put you in the mind of a criminal, psychopath and a gangster. " Mind Of A Lunatic" "Gangster of Love" "Read These Nikes" and they also have a midget named Buschwick Bill that sings" Size Ain't S**t". Put all this together and you have a horror show put to music.
N.W.A. THE N.W.A. LEGACY VOLUME 1 1988-1998
This is the greatest double disc of N.W.A. the original band of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E. This album only has about 6 NWA songs, but has solo songs from all of the above. I would also recommend buying all Eazy-E and old Ice Cube solo albums(Before 1994).
PUBLIC ENEMY THERE'S A POISON GOIN ON
I like just about all the old Public Enemy but this album is the best. Made in 1999 it's there most recent album.
Flavor Flav still has the big clock around his neck and his gold teeth, Chuck-D has his political rhymes and Terminator X remains one of the best DJ's in rap.
