Relief for anyone who wants to quit smoking (Reply to this comment)
by breatheezsteve
I was very sorry to hear about your husband. I have heard quite a few stories like his and have sometimes heard them first hand at my business, Breathe Easy, which I founded to help smokers in the Flathead Valley quit tobacco once and for all!
It's pretty appalling that companies can sell a product like tobacco so freely. I suspect that the penalties they pay can not keep pace with the more than $30 million they spend each day to keep people smoking.
Please stop by www.breathe-easy.biz and give me a call some time. I would love to know how your husband is doing.

Thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt story with us! I have just taken the first steps of quitting smoking. We have a wonderful helpline in South Dakota that supplies Zyban and patches for people trying to quit smoking and counseling to help get you through the first few weeks. I am so happy and excited about living my life smoke free!

heart disease... (Reply to this comment)
by doglover
Is the number one killer in the world. I would encourage everyone to get regular checkups and take into consideration not only smoking but heredity factors. My cousin just found out he had four of his arteries clogged 95%. He has never been a smoker and has not an ounce of fat on him. He just happened to try one of those pressure machines in the store. Saw it said he had a problem, the next day he went to the doctor, and the doctor told him he had no idea why he was still alive. Rushed him into surgery two days from there. He is alive thank god. I am glad to hear your husband also has faired well. Please stop smoking. It is a large contributor. We all want you around.

I have never seen so many well-deserved "Most Helpfuls". I don't smoke but my wife does although she has stopped several times. Both my parents did and it shortened their lives. I've always hated the smell, the smoke, the yellow teeth and fingers. If your very well written plea reaches just one person, that would be wonderful. Hopefully, it will reach 1000's. Hope Jerry recovers fully. Thanks for sharing.

to hear about your husband. I hope he is healing well. There is a reason for everything, I like to believe- and this was your chance for a new, healthy start. My boyfriend and I have recently quit along with a large group of friends. Best of luck to you and your husband!

41? (Reply to this comment)
by kevlog
That number jumped out at me because it's my wife's age. She lost her dad to a massive heart attack fifteen years ago. He was a chain smoker and my wife absolutely HATES cigarettes, especially because we know smoking killed him. I wish my kids had had the chance to know him.
Great message here
Best Regards from Boston

that your husband (and you, too) had to go through this horrible experience. I am happy to know that he will be alright...what a scare for both of you! You both are, and will continue to be, in my thoughts and prayers.
Thanks for writing this review...I hope it will help others to stop smoking but as you said, a person has to truly want to quit, and be disciplined enough to do so. I plan to print this and give it to my brother.
Take care, and know that I care, as do so many others here at Epinions.
God bless you both,
Margaret

I'm sorry to hear about your husband (Reply to this comment)
by jo.com
but glad to hear you are doing something about it. My daughter works for the American Cancer Society and we are anti smoking advocates. Unfortunately my mom is a very heavy smoker but my dad (who passed away 5 years ago) had quit about 10 years before he died (not cancer related). In any case, the point can't be made enough or strongly enough and just to add...my daughter's area is second hand smoke -worse than first hand, many think, since it isn't filtered!jo

Smoking (Reply to this comment)

Sherry,
How terrible that this happened to your husband! This is a wonderful review that will help so many people. My father used to smoke and just quit one day (which I am so happy about).

I did graduate in May 2000 and after living in Denver for a year, we moved back to Bozeman in June 2001! I'm so glad to be back.

Thank You.... (Reply to this comment)

...everyone, very much. I mainly wrote this as a catharsis, I had spent hours calling & e-mailing friends and relatives, staying calm and making it sound like nothing awful so as not to worry anyone, but...it was AWFUL. I needed to vent, and if just one person is helped to quit by this, I feel better. He will be OK, and his heart suffered minimal damage. It truly was a 'wake up call', and I think we woke up. I hope everyone else like us wakes up, as well.
Again, thank you. Support and caring are always good, and I appreciate it.

It's an eye opener! (Reply to this comment)
by MississippiMom
...Makes you really stop and think! My Best to you and your Hubby, I sincerely hope he recovers quickly and Wish Both of you the Best! I've tried a few different types of quitting ... cold turkey.... failed couldn't handle it. Hypnotist...failed... only smoke free for one day and all I hear in my head is I want to be a NON Smoking slender female. Patch...failed after months of not smoking, I went back to it! I seem to fall back under stressful times. My next step besides being Motivated to Do So and Stay Smoke Free... I am going to Try LASER for 125.00 and a guarantee its worth a try because I want to be smoke free in the worst way... yet I get Stressed Out at times and I light that first one back up and that is all it takes. You have Opened my eyes once again
Thanks for the eye opener and my best to you and yours to be SMOKE FREE and Stay Healthy!

I wasn't expecting to read something like this! (Reply to this comment)
by glomarrone
Hi,
I am so very sorry for both of you. How difficult this must be! Your husband now needs you more than he ever has before. You both must be tough and stay off the cigarettes. It is so devastating to face mortality in the face and to accept that we ourselves are also responsible for our lives.
My husband was a smoker. So, I understand how very hard this addiction is to give up. He hasn't smoked a cigarette in 30 years but it wasn't easy for him. I'll bet you both succeed at giving up smoking, too. It sounds like you both had a scary wake-up call.
Thanks for sharing your heartache with the community here. Maybe you review will help someone else realize that he/she must also stop smoking.
I hope your husband has a quick recovery. After he gets home, take some time off and enjoy nature - a walk in a park or a sunset something like that. Life is beautiful and precious. We don't realize how beautiful and precious until something like this happens.
Keep in touch. I'd like to know how you both are faring! I'll keep you in my prayers.
Gloria
