NewEgg is obviously on its Last Legg... because they are resorting to all sorts of slimy and fraudulent tactics to get new customers.
First, I ordered from them mainly because of the raving customer reviews posted on THEIR web site. I should have checked epinions first. I had never heard of newegg before but their customer reviews convinced me to order. What I didn't discover until later is that they do NOT POST NEGATIVE REVIEWS. I sent a review in after my experience and it has never been posted on their site. So BE WARE... they closely censor the reviews they allow to be posted. You can complain a bit about the product but don't dare complain about NewEgg itself or your review will never be seen.
I paid $3.00 extra for "same-day" processing - which it turns out means "we'll process it whenever we get around to it". Many of the reviewers had said they were amazed at how newegg got their new monitor to them the very next day! Especially since newegg makes no promise of even filling your order by the next day - much less shipping it out.
Anyway, I figured this meant they like to under-promise and over-deliver. But not so. Even though I paid for same-day shipping they didn't ship it until the next Monday. (I ordered it on a Thursday). I received it the next Thursday - a full week later. That wouldn't have normally been a problem except that they led me to believe, by the reviews they allowed to be posted and the ones they didn't allow, that I would have received it by Friday the next day. (I ordered it early Thursday morning).
However, receiving it a week later than expected was not when the nightmare began. The nightmare began when I hooked the new monitor up to my computer and there was a solid black line (dead pixels) that ran across the entire width of the screen (meaning 1,900 dead pixels).
NewEgg has this line written next to each and every monitor they sell:
"Dead Pixel Policy: Replacement or Refund for 8 or more dead pixels only."
Okay, I had 1,900 dead pixels... 240 times more than are required for a replacement or refund.
I didn't want a refund because I needed the monitor. So I called Acer and said I'd like a replacement. I actually called them twice.
The first time they said, "All exchanges go direct through the manufacturer, we don't have anything to do with that."
I asked who would pay for the shipping in this case. They said *I* would have to pay for the shipping ($80 round trip including insurance for monitor). So add $80 and that increasese my price by 12%! That's a huge additional expense that wasn't expected and certainly not warned about by NewEgg. No warning of this whatsoever before I made the purchase. No warning that I would have to pay the shipping expense round trip in case anything was wrong with the monitor.
The monitor was basically dead on arrival. It didn't work out of the box. This is certainly not my fault that I was sent a defective monitor. Yet although it wasn't my fault, I am now stuck with paying an additional $80 just to get it rectified.
NewEgg will not send you a replacement monitor and then allow you to send the defective monitor you just purchased back to them - like most decent companies will do. They will not pay for you to ship it back to them. In fact, they won't even allow you to ship it back to them.
The second time I called was because the manufacturer's representative who I called told me they were under contract with them to take these monitors back and send out replacements. So I called NewEgg again to tell them that - and here's what they told me this time:
"I'm sorry but since you have the 24" monitor, it's too big for our receiving department to receive, so you'll have to deal directly with the manufacturer on this."
Is that unbelievable or what?
This is a SCAM company. Stay as far away from them as you possibly can. You might be okay as long as the merchandise you purchase is in great shape when you receive it. But if it is in any way damaged, NewEgg does not stand behind what they sell. They wash their hands of it immediately after it leaves their premises. You are on your own if you get a defective product. And it can cost you a lot of money - just in shipping alone. Not to mention the additional 4-6 weeks you'll have to wait to receive a replacement!
STAY AWAY!
By the way, for those of you who have had problems as well and would like to write a letter to the CEO - I finally was able to extract his name from someone there (after 45 minutes of hassling me about why I wanted to know), so here's his name and address. Please feel free to write to him with your bad experiences.
