About four or so years ago I was looking to purchase celery seed and stumbled across mountainroseherbs.com. The price was reasonable, so I placed the order, receiving my product, and was overall very satisfied. Periodically since that time I have received paper catalogs from them and made various purchases, but not on a regular or frequent basis.
A couple weeks ago the one pound bag of celery seed I had purchased way back then ran out (we grind it ourself into celery powder) and my husband asked me to go online and order him some more. Surprisingly enough, I remembered that I had purchased it from mountainroseherbs.com so off I went to their web site.
Web Site Overall Information and Design
This site is very easy on the eyes and tastefully done. The main page is in brown and green and easy to read. There is a generic "search" box in the upper left hand corner. When I typed in "celery seed", though, it took me to a search result page similar to any other search engine, and I found that distracting. I hit the back button and decided to try again. This time I clicked on the "Bulk Organic Herbs and Spices" button. This button took me to a product index, just what I wanted.
From there I clicked on the "Bulk Herbs and Spices" button and found myself on a page that gave general helpful information about the products supplied by mountainroseherbs.com and an alphabetical search directory at the bottom. I clicked on "C" and scrolled down the comprehensive list until I found "celery seed". Just what I wanted. Organic, and the sit said its origin was Egypt. Interesting. I had three choices of the seed; a four ounce package for $4.75, an eight ounce package for $5.75, or a full pound for $10.00 You could also buy the powder if you prefer. We find that it is better to buy the seed and grind it ourselves for maximum freshness. Ten dollars for a pound of organic celery seed is an incredible deal. An average price for McCormick/Schilling celery seed is around $5.00 an ounce! And mountainroseherbs.com's celery seed is organic, which makes it even better.
The web site is easy to navigate and loads in a reasonable amount of time. The colors are well-chosen and easy on the eyes. Navigation is confusing at first, but becomes easier as one browses the site and figures it out. Down the left side of the page are informational buttons that contain valuable information on ordering, etc.
Product Selection
The selection at this site is phenomenal. You can purchase anything from bulk organic herbs to books to essential oils to hair care products to teas to tons of other products. Could be called one stop shopping in a lot of ways; definitely dangerous. I could spend way more money than I should at this site. Some of the products I plan to buy in the future are organic cocoa butter, soy candles, and massage oils. I don't think I will ever run out of things I want to buy from this site!
Ease of Ordering
In a word - simple. At the top of the screen is a "view card/checkout button". The purchasing steps are easy and the site loads very quickly. A confirmation email is also sent to you after the order is complete.

4 Return Policy
Appears to be excellent! According to the web site, they accept returns for 60 days after purchase for any reason. Your choices are to exchange for a different product, incur a site credit for your next purchase, or have it refunded to your credit card. They do not charge a "restocking fee" and they claim absolutely no hassle in returning any product. Since I have always been one hundred percent satisfied with the purchases I have made from them, I have never had to experience the return process first hand. In truth, I don't envision ever feeling a need to return a product purchased from them but it is nice to know that they put customer service first when the situation does arise.
Overall Opinion
Years ago when I first purchased from mountainroseherbs.com I either did not fully appreciate the variety and selection or things have changed over the past few years. At any rate, I will definitely be a frequent return customer to this online store. I purchased the one pound bag of celery seed and a book on herbal medicine and they arrived within three or four days. The shipping was perhaps a bit high at $7.29 for the two products but they were shipped via UPS so that might account for the cost. I still found my purchases to be an incredible value even taking the shipping cost into consideration.
I requested a catalog on the web site when I placed my order, but it did not come with my order. My invoice did say "Enjoy the Winter 2006-2007 Catalogue" so I assume I will receive it in the mail when it is released for the winter season. I am looking forward to it, as I need to replenish my healing herb collection and I have no doubt that mountainrosesherbs.com is the place to do this. I have done a lot of internet research and I have not yet found a vendor that can compete with quality and price.
I highly recommend mountainroseherbs.com. There is absolutely something for everyone at this online store; check it out! I am sure you won't be disappointed. Excellent selection, high quality, reasonable prices. This vendor has been in business since 1987, and I fully understand why. I am sure they will be around for many years to come.
