Impertinent Thoughts on Pertinent Subjects VII

The Bottom Line All the music news the way you want it...with a heavy dose of sarcasm and bitterness.

here we go folks...

* so J-Lo debuted at #1 with her re-mix album...fair enough, but here's something to chew on for the guys who want to chew on her: do you REALLY want Puff Daddy's sloppy seconds?

* I have MY ticket to see The Who this summer. Do you? Honestly guys, you really don't know how many more times they're gonna tour, so if you haven't seen these LEGENDS yet, I suggest you do so this summer. (Yes, tickets are expensive but believe me, they're worth every penny, even lawn seats)

* I had to sell my Michelle Branch ticket...my professors shall die for that...especially if the chance to see her in a small club is gone forever. Damn papers, damn tests, and damn reading.

* In a discussion of music with some friends, the topic of selling out came up. The question I pose to you is, what's the worst thing an artist can do: Sell out? Or TRY to sell out with all their might and fail? I go for the latter.

* So I was watching MTV2 the other night, and Mariah Carey's Loverboy video came on. She fondles her own t*ts no less than NINE times in the video. What's the matter Mariah, has it gotten to the point where every two bit rapper has had you so you're stuck fondling yourself?

* Anyone interested in buying some Smashmouth CDs from me? Sorry, but I lose all respect for you once you agree to open for N'Sync.

* So 3lW thinks they're gonna "mack it" with their second album. Don't hold your breath ladies, teen pop is on it's way out.

* Did you ever wonder what was the #1 single on the day you were born? Check out this site: http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/cont/choose.html
I'm disturbed that the #1 song in the US on my bday was KC And the Sunshine Band.

* Am I the only one who thinks it's oh so appropriate that Scott Stapp's real initials are A.S.S.?

* So 98 Degrees are going on hiatus...in other words, they've seen their time has come, and now Nick is gonna go bang the hell out of Jessica Simpson...well, because he can.

* The Grammys are next week. *Yawn* U2 will win most of the major awards, India Arie will get the nod in the R&B categories, and as long as Beavis Band (Linkin Park for those not up with their new name) doesn't win anything, in the words of Bob Marley: "everything's gonna be alright now."

* Jane's Addiction has booked studio time for next month, maybe just maybe this album will be worth buying; hey it can't be any worse than Nickelback or god forbid Godsmack.

* Creed blew through Boston about two weeks ago, and the best review had this line: "Creed tried to take U2's idea of connecting to the audience, with their ramps and such...there's just one problem: U2 has GOOD songs." Ouch. That had to hurt.

* For those who may have missed it, Less Than Jake released their Goodbye Blue and White CD into stores this week. It basically encompasses many of the tracks previously only available on 7" vinyl. It was originally only available through the band's website, but they so underestimated demand that it was taking up to 9 months to fill orders. In other CD release news, the late Joey Ramone's swan song album was also released this week. I haven't listened to it yet, but a review will be coming shortly. Joey is very much missed.

* Let me get this straight: N'Sync singer Lance Bass is gonna go into space...but he's not staying out there...what's the point of that again?

* And finally, if you go to www.pearljam.com, there are pictures of the boys hard at work on their next record...there is no tentative release date although methinks an August release and a September through November tour of the US and a January/February tour of Down Under could be more than possible. No further word on the B-sides album that is supposed to be coming out either, other than "they're working on it."
