Ebay is my favorite online store to shop at; I'm able to get items cheaper usually or items I can't find locally!
I also sell a lot on Ebay.
Here's some simple instructions on how to register on Ebay, research your item, list your item to sell & some advice.
Registering at Ebay
1. Go to www.ebay.com
2. Click on register at the top
3. Register and click continue. Follow the instructions.
Theyll ask you for your credit card number. Its ok to do this & required. Ebay does this b/c it actually is the safest way to know that its you and you only. They will not charge this credit card unless you accumulate charges from selling items; and even then they will notify you by email with the bill and then a week or two later to tell you they did it.
My advice, create an extra free email account from www.yahoo.com or other JUST FOR EBAY! Check it often b/c thats where youll get your messages, etc.
Selling an item
1. Study the item:
Have in front of you what youre going to sell along with a note pad.
Measure it & write it down.
Research the item to see how much it is
(below). Write it down.
Write a description of it; include brand and size. Also consider including the color, style, item condition, original price, measurements, material, etc.
Take a good quality photo or scan in your item.
At times you may want to review Ebays policies on certain items. Some items are prohibited (for example: contact lenses) and others have certain rules (like you cant sell more than 10 auctions of the exact same thing at one time). Look at these at the bottom of the front page on Ebay. Click on Policies
2. Go to Ebay.com and sign in.
3. Click on SELL
4. Click on which auction format you want to sell this item in. Online Auctions are the most common.
5. Type in what your item is and click Search for Categories
6. Click on the circle of the category you want.
7. Scroll down and click continue.
8. Type in what the title of your auction will be.
Use descriptive keywords that clearly announce what you are selling.
Include your item's brand name, artist, or designer.
State exactly what your item is, even if your title repeats the category name.
Think of words buyers might use to search for your item, and include relevant terms and words.
Keep in mind that buyers don't search for words like "wow" or "look," so use the limited space of your title for more descriptive words.
Browse similar items' closed listings to see which titles drew high prices in the past.
9. Fill in the Item Specifics, if they have any. Sometimes they will and other times they wont. It depends on the category youre in.
10. Write your description of the item. Make it interesting & eye catching by changing the font, font size, bold, caps, alignment, etc.
11. Click continue at the bottom of the page.
12. Fill in the starting price. A lower starting price can encourage more bids.
13. You can put a reserve on it and other things, if you choose.
14. Choose the duration of your auction. The most common is 7 days.
15. Put in your photo(s).
16. Then choose which extra features you want. I usually do Gallery; more people will see it which means more potential bids.
17. Click continue at the bottom of the page.
18. Click on which payment methods youll accept. I personally will only accept Paypal, money orders and cashier checks. Paypal allows people to use their bank account (debit) and credit cards to pay you. If you choose Paypal, youll need to set up a Paypal account to get paid. www.paypal.com
19. Click on where youre willing to ship the item to. I almost always only do USA.
20. Choose the shipping rate. They make it easy by having the Research rates and services link; its very helpful.
21. Type in what your payment instructions, if any, do you have. In other words, your policies.
22. Click continue at the bottom of the page.
23. This is the page you can review your auction listing before you submit it. If you want to change something, click Edit --- ---- on the right hand side of what you want to change.
24. When youre done, click Submit listing at the bottom of the page.
25. Congratulations! Youre item is up for sale on Ebay!
Research the item
1. Go to google.com, froogle.com, ebay.com, craigslist.com, and TONS of other sites to look up what the item is and how much it is selling or sold for on those sites. Id advise going to at least 4 different sites to see the average worth.
2. On ebay you can look up it up by clicking advanced search.
type in what you want in the white box
click on completed listings only
then click search
It will bring up any of those auctions of those items that have ended on ebay in the past month or so.
On the right hand side click on the arrow where it says sort by; choose the Price: highest first. Whatever price thats green, it has been sold. If its in red, it did not sell. This is a great way to also see whats selling on Ebay.
My Ebay
1. Click on My Ebay to see the items youre selling, sold, watching or buying. This is my favorite tool. Youre able to see everything youve done or are doing all at once.
2. Sometimes you may want to relist the item several times until it sells. Maybe even lower the price some.
Remember that just because you think it should sell, it may not; just b/c its a great item, no one may want it; just b/c its worth a lot doesnt mean someone will pay that much and that the person that will pay that much has even seen it yet. Also remember that someone at sometime will be willing to pay too much or too little for anything.
