Bill,
John woo's films are definitely a great place to start.
But if you are interested in searching for other Hong Kong flicks, visit ebay or half.com for bargain prices. If not, go to the more typical on-line shops (Amazon.com, etc.)
Another great site you may be interested in is HKflix.com
Hope this was of help. Thanks for reading and commenting.

I'm afraid my exposure to these films is woefully inadequate (I was unfamiliar with the term "wuxia").
I have seen a couple of the John Woo films (I liked The Killer, Woo's bit of homage to Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samourai). And I've been meaning to see more of his work.
All the other stuff you mention is (I'm afraid) completely unfamiliar to me.
Let me start with some more Woo stuff first.
Regards,
Bill

What a fantastic review about a genre that I know very little about. I'm intrigued by the Chinese Ghost Story, and would love to check that out...it sounds right up my alley! Thanks for the enjoyable read.

You have been gone for far too long on this site (over a month!), but what a way to come back. Stunning editorial and absolutely spot on.
Please don't leave us again. Please :-)

How you've never heard of the movie I put in this W/O, and I had only seen Peking Opera Blues... So we've got a lot to watch coming up!!
This was certainly a very interesting, informative and enjoyable reading. Then again, that's no news coming from you.... :)

I too am a huge fan of Hong Kong action, and your review has given me a lot of titles to seek out. I was wondering if you had seen Tsui Hark's "Time and Tide?" I saw it recently, and found it pretty incredible as far as action went. Keep up the good work.

David,
I have been patiently waiting for your entry into this write-off, knowing that i wouldn't be disappointed. I also learned of two films that I need to check out, thank you.
One note: For anyone out there interested in the film Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky you would do well to read Shadow8's review on it - it is impressive as well.
I finally picked up the DVD of Chinese Ghost Story (it's mine, all mine) and can not believe how much I am moved by it still, after seeing dozens of times already. This was a great read, as always. Hope all is well in your neck of this country! :)
