The Bottom Line Two companies-Outlaw Audio and Home Theater Direct have great products and customer service and saved me a lot of money for excellent products. Buying on-line can reap rewards....
We recently upgraded our Home Theater System and ended up buying from two companies that sell only from the Web. Our new house was pre-wired for Home Theater 5.1 and, originally, I had decided on some Klipsch in-wall/ceiling speakers at Soundtrack which sounded wonderful at $240 each. This would have meant an outlay of $1000 just for the main speakers plus about $150-$200 for a center channel and $300 for a 12" sub-woofer. I happened to find a company called Home Theater Direct in a search and started to check sites such as audioreview.com for more information. I have never bought anything on the web and so I was very nervous about this purchase. Having talked with Brian in customer service I decided to try a set of their Level 3 speakers with center channel and 12" sub-woofer for about $650. I am totally amazed by their sound quality which was much better than my Cerwin Vega RE35s. I am not a techno-audiophile but I appreciate good music and this is a wonderful set of speakers and would happily recommend them to anyone.
Next was the choice of Receiver. I had looked at Harman Kardon and was about to settle on their AV220 when, again, I happened to find another web-only company called Outlaw Audio. With very positive reviews on audioreview.com and in magazines I decided to order the Outlaw Audio 1050 and it arrived the following day at 10am! Hooking up everything was easy and again I was stunned by how great it sounded. I've only had it a few days but I'm extremely impressed with it.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that some on-line companies really do have exceptional products and have excellent customer support. These two companies have been a really lucky find for me and I have ended up with an amazing Home Theater and saved a lot of money doing it but, as many people point out on this site we still have to be very careful about who we deal with---caveat emptor.....
