The Bottom Line These are my top ten animated movies; from my childhood favorites to my daughters.

While pondering which 10 animated movies we have that are my most favorite, I realized that most of them are Disney. Where Disney has the market for children's movies that doesn't mean that other's, that are not made by Disney, are not of high quality. So here are my top 10 favorites.

In first place...

The Lion King
Made by Disney
Rated:G
88 minutes

The Lion King is one of Disney's newer movies that is just really a well rounded movie with morals thrown in under cover. The all-star casting was an achievement. Each made their character come alive. Mufasa was the crowning lead of all the others. Ignore the pun there. In his short time in the movie Mufasa made a lasting impression with his son Simba who 'just can't wait to be King'. The songs are memorable and simbolic. All around this tale of a king, a prince and an evil brother makes Lion King my favorite movie so far. Having grown up away from the pride while his evil Uncle is destroying all Mufasa created, he just wasn't raised a true lion. But when he was tested, Simba's true instinct kicked in. And in the long run Simba came home and saved the Pride as well as the Serengeti.

In second place...

Mulan
Made by Disney
Rated:G
88 minutes

Mulan is a well known legend from China about a young girl who does not fit into her traditional position yet. When war is started by the Huns invading China, one man from each family is called on to serve the Imperial Army. Unfortunatly Mulan's father is the only male in the family. Injured from a previous war when still a young man, Mulan's father is once again called upon. Unlike other families where a son was able to step forth to protect the family name and honor. Not wanting here father to die, Mulan (now Ping) takes her father's place. Being caught would mean death and dishonor to the family. Somehow Ping (Mulan) pulls it off and winds up saving all of China. The point that a woman was the strength and main character tells all little girls that they can do anything.

In third place...

Beauty and the Beast
Made by Disney
Rated:G
84 minutes

The Beauty in the Beast is an awesome story about learning to love people for who they are on the inside. The morals are thrown in all over the place in this story. Another classic in the history of Disney if you ask me. The musical scores are memorable as well. Located in France the tale of a young lady who just didn't fit in. Her love for books made her and her father's crazy inventions made Belle the laughing stock of the town. The Beast (a selfish cruel Prince) was transformed by a enchantress, who had come to the door as an old hag who sought shelter in return for a beautiful rose. When the Prince failed the test the hag turned into a beautiful woman. Because of his greed, selfishness, she turned him into his true self. Doomed to remain this until someone falls in love with him, for him on the inside. Which during most of this movie wasn't very nice at all. Belle's father trespassed into the castle seeking help, in return he was thrown into the dungeon. Belle traded herself for her father. Showing undying love for her father. All the servants are now objects in the castle. They see the possibility of her saving them from being objects the rest of eternity. The Beast finally is falling in love with Belle, and her with him. At the very last second, injured and near death Belle professes her love to the Beast and begs him not to die. Magically he is transformed, as well as the servants, back into their true human form.

In fourth place...

Fern Gully:The Last Rainforest
Made by FoxVideo
Rated:G
74 minutes

Fern Gully is a magical tale filled with Fairies, tree cutters, and an all around diabolical Hexxus. Who thanks to the tree cutters , is on the loose and is seeking revenge on Fern Gully. Magically made fairy size, Zak sees the true beauty and magic of the last rainforest and vows to defend it. Crysta, a tree fairy, along with Batty and all the others, who live within the rainforest, save the day from Hexxus. The tale teaches us to respect the last of the rainforests still out there being made smaller everyday. This is a well rounded comical tale that I love.

In fifth place...

Cinderella
Made by Disney
Rated:G
76 minutes

The timeless classic Cinderella, is a fun loving tale of a young girl being raised by her 'evil' stepmother along with her 2 step-sisters. Cinderella is made to clean, care for, and tend the home as well as play maid to the step-mother and 2 step-sisters. I find it sad that most of the timeless classics from Disney have evil step-mothers! But the story goes on with the Price of the kingdom coming home and the King throws a ball in his honor. The King is in hopes that by inviting every single girl in the kingdom that his son will fall in love with one of them. So the invites are delivered and the step-mother tells Cinderella if she gets all her chores done she see's no reason why she couldn't go as well. Knowing that Cinderella is more beautiful than her own 2 daughters, she makes sure that there isn't time for her to get ready to go to the ball. But with the help from some mice, the ball dress is ready to go when Cinderella is done all her chores. Too much the surprise Cinderella comes flowing down the stairwell, in her beautiful gown, only to be torn to shreds by the 2 sisters. Full of grief, Cinderella runs to the garden, and a fairy-godmother appears and with a magical Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, the fairy godmother transforms a pumpkin to a coach, the mice in to horses and a beautiful dress with glass slippers for Cinderella. The magical spell only lasts until midnight. Of course the Prince falls in love with Cinderella, but she runs from him and disapears at midnight. The Duke is sent, with the only clue to who this woman is, to find her with one of the glass slippers. Every girl in the kingdom is ordered to try it on. Whom the slipper fits shall marry the Prince. Knowing it is Cinderella, the evil step-mother locks her away in her room. The mice save the day again and Cinderella runs down the stairs right before the Duke leaves, and becomes the new Princess of the kingdom.

In sixth place...

Snow White
Made by Disney
Rated:G
84 minutes

Another timeless classic with yet another evil step-mother. This evil Queen is very vain and wishes to be the most beautiful of them all. Everyday she asks the magic mirror "Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" Always it is her, but one day he changes his mind and tells the evil Queen that Snow White is the fairest of them all. The young Snow White has found true love only before the evil Queen orders her death. Fleeing to the forest to save herself, Snow White finds a small little cottage where 7 little dwarfs live. Dopey,Sleepy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Bashful, Happy and Doc. Everyone has their favorite; mine is Grumpy. But dispite the dwarfs' loyalty they couldn't protect her from the evil Queen who gave her an apple that put her to sleep. A sleep where only the kiss from her true love could break the evil spell.

In seventh place...

Sleeping Beauty
Made by Disney
Rated:G
75 minutes

Set with a loving King and his Queen who longed for years for a child. At last their wish was granted; born to them Princess Aurora. A huge party was given. Invited was all the kingdom; including the Fairies. Well all but one fairy; a very wicked fairy named Maleficent. My favorite of all Disney's bad girls. Each of the three good fairies decided to give the new Princess a gift of a magical spell. The first two had given her their spell when a very angry Maleficent, doomed the Princess to die on her sixteenth birthday by pricking her finger on a spinning wheel. Off as fast as she arrived, the Kings men couldn't catch her. So the third fairy changed Maleficents spell for her to fall into a deep sleep instead of death. Thus to protect her as much as possible, the King and Queen has Aurora raised by the three good fairies deep within the forest. The day of her sixteenth birthday Aurora is secretly taken to the castle for her birthday party. Maleifcent found out and put her into a trance. Leading her to a tower at the castle, where 1 spindle wheel is awaiting her. Maleifcent urges her to touch it, thus falliing into a deep sleep instead of death. Of course a kiss from her true love will awaken her.

In eighth place...

The Little Mermaid
Made by Disney
Rated:G
83 minutes

This musically fun loving tale is of a Princess, named Ariel, under the sea who longs to live on land with the humans. Her father King Triton orders her to stay away from the world above. One night a storm knocks a Prince from his ship. Falling overboard and out cold, Ariel saves him and delivers him safely ashore. All Prince Eric can remember about the woman who saved his life, was her beautiful singing voice. Ariel, makes a deal with, the evil sea-witch Ursula, and trades her fins and her voice for human legs. She is in love with Prince Eric and if she get him to fall in love with her without her voice, she can keep her legs. But at the last day of the deal, Ursula gets involved. Changing her form to human, and borrowing Ariels' voice, she gets Prince Eric to marry her. He's under a magical spell to boot. Ariel's friends come to help her prevent the marriage. Ariel's time is up and she becomes Ursula's slave. But Prince Eric realizes that Ariel was the same woman who saved him. A little too late. This beautiful romantic story is filled with musical scores that every little girl loves.

Last but not least...

This is a beautiful song filled love story between two dogs. Lady comes to live with the Darlings. Lady grows from a pampered floppy puppy to a full grown cocker spaniel. Meanwhile the Darlings have a baby of their own. When Aunt Sarah comes to stay with the baby while the Darlings are out of town, Aunt Sarahs' two cats Si and Am get Lady into a heap of trouble.
