Pros:A fine alternative to sponge cleaning.
Cons:The product disintegrates with repeated uses.
The Bottom Line: With discounts available, it is well worth trying the pad for the wonderful job that it does.
The Procter & Gamble company promotes the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is a soft cleaning pad -- not your usual cleaning sponge. It is advertised as useful on refrigerators, stoves, appliances, sinks, bathroom walls and tubs, living room surfaces, patio furniture, children's toys, leather athletic shoes, and even car windshields.
The Eraser is composed of an innovative cleaning material that requires ONLY WATER to activate it to breaks up tough dirt, and lift it away residue from surfaces.
I have used the eraser in every room of our home, and have found it to be wonderful. The key, for me, to its effectiveness, is not to drench it in water. Just dampen the eraser and gently scrub whatever needs cleaning. Some reviewers have suggested using only small sections of the eraser for lesser cleaning jobs, and I found that to be effective, too. Cleaning the inside of the refrigerator is a breeze, and a quick wipe shines the inside and outside of the microwave. Kitchen and bathroom vanity tops respond wonderfully to the magic touch. Although it is not meant to wash entire floors, cleaning up a quick spill or floor stain is quick and easy with the Magic Eraser. I'm terribly particular about maintaining clean tops on my clothes washer and dryer, and with a quick swipe of the eraser pad, my washing machines stay looking new.
With a MOIST, not wet, eraser pad, I clean my computer monitor and keyboard, our land line telephones and cell phones, have use it MOIST to wipe down surfaces in my car. Leaving the eraser only damp, I found grout ion the bathroom and kitchen floors starting to brighten. But the eraser does take a beating on grout. Also, once you soak the eraser, you shorten its lifespan because the pad will disintegrate when wet.
DON'T TRY TO WASH THE ERASER. Lots of us put sponges in our dishwasher or our clothes washing machine to disinfect a soiled sponge. Remember that Magic Eraser it is not a sponge; it contains very specific chemicals to do the work it does, and without any hard scrubbing and without any odor, it is quite an innovative product. But washing it will render it useless.
The downside is that the erasers don't last very long; but they work like magic.
The product used to be available in only packages of 2. Now you can purchase packages of 8 and even buy them in bulk on some e-bay sites. If you want to just try it, some e-bay sites have it for fifty cents (.50) for one.
If you are not sure of its use on a particular surface, read carefully the directions on the package. For most jobs I think this pad is a nice alternative to the sponge cleaning method.
