Pros:HEPA filter, nice floor brush.

Cons:Small bag, easily clogged, no on-board tool storage, short cord, expensive.

Riccar is sold by many independent retailers as a cheaper alternative to Miele. Their full-size 1700 and 1800 models may well be fine. After purchasing and using their mid-size 1500P, however, I am quite disappointed: it has several basic design flaws. These problems apply to the entire 1500 line:

- The vacuum bags are tiny and have to be replaced every few days. If anything large is sucked up (e.g. a dryer sheet) the bag is immediately clogged.

- None of the full sized tools can be carried on the canister. Under the lid are a set of useless, tiny mini-tools.

- Very short electric cord makes it necessary to change outlets frequently.

- Power switch on handle only works powerbrush, the main powerswitch is on the canister itself.

I wasted $600 after tax on this unit. After I was fed up with it, I replaced it with a $300 Sears Kenmore that had none of the flaws and an equally good HEPA filter.
