The Bottom Line n/a
I'm sorry, but I can't resist *Beavis Band won a Grammy. That is SO frighteningly disturbing, and yet, it just proves how much of a mockery these things are. I wonder if Beavis was on hand to accept the award for the band he so obviously inspired. *Ya know, say what you want, but the fact that the O Brother soundtrack won for album of the year might not be so bad. First off, it's not nearly as bad as Steely Dan last year (that was terrible), and second, it sold plenty of copies through word of mouth and not through airplay. *So Alicia Keys won for best new artist and song of the year. Interesting. She won't see the kind of success Fallin afforded her ever again though, I guarantee you that. At the same time, if Beavis Band was going to win a Grammy, best new artist would have been the one to take...that thing is a kiss of death. Alicia could be the next Tracy Chapman. *OK, so I'm kind of disappointed that Outkast didn't win for record of the year. I love Ms Jackson. *Coldplay won for best alternative album. Calling Coldplay alternative is like calling the Backstreet Boys heavy metal. *Drops of Jupiter won a minor songwriting award...sure it's catchy enough, but a SONGWRITING award? Talk about bad lyrics, I could come up with something better in 5 minutes. *When I saw Lenny Kravitz won, I thought to myself "since when can you win for material from 10 years ago? Surely they can't mean any of his NEW stuff was nominated!" *The fact that Kravitz beat out Ryan Adams was a total joke. *Tool won for best metal performance. What, no Jethro Tull this year? Damn, I was hoping they could repeat! *It was so disappointing that I wasn't able to watch Britney Spears lip synch a couple of songs this year. *OK, so it's 2002 and James Taylor won for best male pop vocal? What, are they kidding? *Usher and Destiny's Child have won Grammys now. But Led Zeppelin never did. Riiiiiiiiiight. *It's odd, but when I saw DC Talk mentioned as winning, I couldn't help but think of our own divad23. *Radiohead won for "best album packaging." Talk about your "nobody cares" categories. *And finally, Christopher Walken's performance helped earn Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim the short form video of the year award. At least they got one right. P.S., Michael Jackson, thank you for not showing up. |
