The Bottom Line Just let the girls hang out, relax, and have fun. Just be safe with whatever you do. Remember to have fun!

These days, it’s really hard to satisfy your pre-teenage daughter. Usually, they don’t know what to pick. Everything good has been used already over the years of parties. They want a fun, original, big bash for turning an “official” teenager. Probably the best way to do this is a sleepover. At first, it might sound boring. That will be impossible to believe once you’re finished reading this review! All you have to do is add some cool decorations, fun food, and LOTS of entertaining activities!

First, you want to make up a guest list. Depending on how much room you have and the number of adults to watch the kids, pick guests accordingly. Then you can work on the invitations. Cute invitation ideas are: on the front cover, you can make half of the invitation with the moon and stars, and the other half with clouds and sun. Also, you can take a piece of plaid fabric and make a sleeping bag on the cover! Those are sure to catch friends’ attention. Clearly write the name of your child, date, time, place, R.S.V.P. number, and other notes (such as bring a bathing suit and a towel if it’s a swimming party). Send out the invitations about three weeks before the party date.

When the party date comes, be prepared at least a half-hour before starting time. To start off the party, you want to break the ice in some way. A lot of people are kind of shy at first. You need a way to get everyone laughing at the start of the party. A good game would be perfect. You might want to play guessing game where no equipment is needed, such as Charades. You could try an electronic game like Taboo, there would be teams and that could be exciting. Or, you could try my personal favorite. A Scavenger Hunt! Even if this is a sleepover, you might want to have this event outside. My version has a little twist to it. For example-Everybody starts out by being read the first clue by an adult. It should be rhyming, something like, “The next clue can be found, in tall grass on the ground!” Then, people would go around looking for tall grass and the next clue. There should be about 15-20 clues all that would be leading up to the final clue and prize. To be fair, every girl should go in order with the clues (they would be numbered). It wouldn’t be fair if they just found the last clue in a few seconds and won right then and there. So, to prove that each girl has been there, she must sign her name on the clue. That way, parents know how far each girl got. For the final clue, you should have a grown up or an older sibling stand in a hidden spot to see who gets to the final clue first! A good idea is to stand at a window located high up, so you can easily view the girls, but they can’t see you. This is a really fun game, and it’s even better when it’s played in the dark!

Don’t worry, your probably thinking, “Oh man! I don’t want to set up a lot of decorations, or spend money or time on preparing the food!” Well, you don’t have to! Amazingly, kids enjoy decorating however they want. It gives them a chance to express themselves in colors and design. All you have to do is leave out some funky colored streamers, curling ribbon, balloons, and other fun party equipment and let the girls do the decorating. They can throw around streamers, blow up and decorate with balloons, and hang curled ribbon from the ceiling! Make sure an adult is around when the kids are blowing up balloons, because if the rubber is strong, it might be tough for them to blow them up with their little lungs! When you curl the ribbon, you should use a pair of scissors. Make sure they are not too sharp, but they can’t be blunt or else the ribbon won’t curl. You should have adult supervision when any sharp objects are around or in use. The decorating fun will probably last around 30 minutes. Then the socializing will begin. While everyone is talking, have your daughter pop in her favorite CD. Wait a minute, what if this comes up-“Moommmm, all of my favorite songs are on different CDs! What do I do? I can’t change the CDs every second!” Aha! The perfect solution! If you have a CD burner, download some dancing or party hits with a good beat. The girls can dance, sing, snack, and socialize in a comfortable environment. However, if you do no have a CD burner, CD stores and some toy stores sell pre-made party mixes.

As for the food, let the kids do it their selves, too! Buy a large, pre-made pizza crust. Then buy the necessary extras such as sauce and cheese. According to your daughter’s and her friend’s preferences, buy toppings (pepperoni, olives, sausage, etc.). Cover the crust with sauce, then the cheese, and then the toppings. Let the girls do this-give them each a separate ingredient to do.

By now, it will probably be time to go to bed (in your terms). The girls will probably not be ready until around midnight. For now, tell them to get in their pajamas, brush heir teeth and anything else that needs to be done. Then, snuggle up for a funny movie. You can pop in movie after movie and the laughs never seem to stop! They make their own little jokes about the movie. You can watch if you want, but this gives parents some private time. Some sleepyheads might fall asleep during the movie, but that’s ok. Just make sure that other girls don’t disturb them.

You can probably edit some of this to fit your daughter’s liking. What ever you do, just follow these simple rules and your bash will be a blast!

1.) ALWAYS have adult supervision. It’s a good idea to have your husband or a friend help out so you don’t have a bunch of hyper kids to look after alone.

2.) Keep the kids in a safe room where there aren’t many breakable, dangerous, or inappropriate objects around.

3.) Let them hang out to do whatever they want (except destruct). Try not to make too many rules, or else they will feel caged in and like they are able to do nothing.

Just follow those three easy ground rules - that’s all you need. Always keep a first-aid kit around for minor cuts and bruises. Have everyone’s phone number on a sheet of paper (in case parents need to be contacted). Remember, be safe-but have FUN!
