Dear Mycouponz, What would you do? (Reply to this comment)
by rightbrain
Recently I was on the highway in my sedan and my connector road merged into the left lane. Before I could get into the right lane, a bully bus (some high SUV or something like it) got right behind me, just inches away.
I know it wanted me to speed up, but I don't speed up when someone is inches away from me. In fact, I slow down, because it's safer. Why risk greater impact and more physical damage, because some nitwit is having a tantrum behind the wheel?
Anyway, I wanted to move to the right lane, but I couldn't because I couldn't see it. The bully bus took up my entire rear view mirror. I was afraid to risk moving over there only to be whacked by another (unseen) vehicle.
After many minutes of the bully bus failing to move away from me to clear my line of vision (and many minutes of me sweating that it would kill me), it finally went around me. And the driver didn't even shoot at me.
Today there are far too many drivers like this. While their vehicles get bigger and more deadly, they vent more and more rage on the road. Dear Mycouponz, what would you have done?

(BTW, great piece you wrote on driving.)

...I love this first sample of what you write !!
I am going to print this off for my teenage 'new' driver to read. She will certainly find some value in your words instead of another lecture from the 'old-man'.
very nicely done!!

P.S. I probably won't get it up very quickly, but check back in a day or two at my user page to see yourself listed in the...

What could you have possibly left out?! Niente! This review was awesome. And you shouldn't discount your two years worth of driving. In that short time you probably have seen everything. ;) Also after time you start taking things for granted. I think the best person to talk about the rules of the road is someone who has just learned them.
I used to be an AWESOME manual-transmission teacher, but as years have progressed I've started taking things for granted. Weird.
Oh, and BTW, Clerks is NOT for everyone. ;D

Well said (Reply to this comment)

If I had written something about driving when I was two years behind the wheel, I surely would have gone the route of "speed limits are for bad drivers; if you're good, use your own judgment. Oh, and please stay out of the left lane, it's mine!" Well, several years, a handful of accidents, and countless speeding tickets later, I have to say - where the hell was your advice when I started driving?!!!
Great job...

...and hopefully it is advice that will be followed!! I totally agree...Yield...at all times in all circumstances. It really doesn't matter who was first, if you have to die proving you had the right of way!
I'm enjoying your reviews...keep up the great writing...kath

excellent pointers. Some impatient drivers would just as soon ride up on your roof if one doesn't move from the passing lane.
