The Bottom Line Self-explanatory.

So here I was, thinking of making a list of top 10 James Bond films when I venture upon this category. And I see that several other people have also done their own list. Not only that, but one of them actually agrees with me about Timothy Dalton. So, with that in mind, here's my top 10 Bond List.

1: Thunderball

Now I don't know if there really is such a thing as best Bond movie. But this one definitely comes close. Plenty of classic Q gadgets. The exciting underwater action sequences. Beautiful bikini clad babes. Sean Connery gives one of his classic Bondian performances and gets in some classic 1-liners ("I think he got the point").

2: Goldfinger

The Bond with the Midas tough, this one has enough classic components it makes one forget that it's in actuality not filled with a ton of action. There's classic villain Goldfinger, Femme Fatale Pussy Galore (I know. But what's her NAME dammit!), Oddjob with the killer bowler hat and the raid on Fort Knox. And of course, the woman covered in gold paint (which would later inspire the title of a Gene Wilder movie called Woman In Red).

3: License To Kill

I know some people may not be too happy with me for ranking this one so high. But I already said it; I think Timothy Dalton was a great Bond. In fact, I rank him as second best Bond after Connery. What I never quite understood was that many of the people who whined about Dalton being too serious, thought Roger Moore was too cartoonish. Dalton portrays Bond as a tough, yet somewhat compassionate and feeling character. His Bond was a flawed human to whom any of us could relate. In this one, Bond leaves the Secret Service to exterminate a Latin Drug Dealer who put his buddy Felix Leiter in the hospital. Great action, great villain, Great babe who can more than hold her own. What more could you want?

4: The Spy Who Loved Me

Roger Moore's third outing as Bond is his best. Moore teams up with his female Soviet Counterpart (Barbara "But I got to marry Ringo" Bach). They set out to stop a madman who is determined to destroy the world and make humanity live underwater. Great action sequences and a memorable henchman in Jaws.

5: You Only Live Twice

Classic Connery. Bond travels to Japan and duels with recurring nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Donald Pleasance is the first and best of the three Blofelds). The Volcano climax is one of the best in the series.

6: Dr. No.

Connery's debut worked well as the launching pad for the Bond series. Connery established himself as the definitive Bond: Ruthless, tough yet not without humor or compassion. The Jamaican setting is also indicative of the direction future Bonds would take.

7: Tomorrow Never Dies

Out of the Pierce Brosnan Bonds, this one is the leader. Brosnan combines elements of Moore, Connery and Dalton and carves out his own niche. Bond sets out to stop a media mogul trying to start World War III as a ratings booster. Breathtaking action and stunts and one of the best Bond girls in Michelle Yeoh who can more than hold her own.

8: For Your Eyes Only

Probably the grittiest, most realistic Bond in the Moore cannon. Bond tries to stop a villainous tycoon from selling a missile decoding system to the KGB. Julian Glover is one of the meaner Bond villains and the emphasis on realism makes Bond more human than he was in the silly Moonraker (By far, the worst one in the series).

9: From Russia With Love

Connery in his second role goes to Russia and meets up with villains and allies alike (especially that one with the poison tipped shoes). The plot is simpler than what would come later. Astounding action sequences. And lest we forget, those shoes!

10: The World Is Not Enough

Brosnan's third entry is another good one. He goes up against a villainous oil tycoon (Robert Carlyle) that's impervious to pain. There is also the lovely Sophie Marceau as another femme fatale.

Honorable Mentions

Dalton

The Living Daylights

Moore

Live And Let Die
Octopussy

Brosnan

Goldeneye
