I recently made my first purchase from eCost. The prices were great. I purchased a "New" Sony DVD/VCR combo player for $58, an mp3 player for $5 (after rebate) and a 1 GB SD Card for $8 (after rebate). They charged me tax even though they are in CA, shipped from TN, and I live in TX. I figured oh well, let Uncle Sam have their share. The items showed up at my doorstep via DHL in only 2 days. I was really impressed since I only paid for ground and expected them in about 5 days. From here my experience turns a little sour. The DVD/VCR that was listed as "New" showed up "refurbished". I called eCost and they reviewed my order and advised me that I was correct and that they would send me an Return Authorization # in 3 - 7 business days. After 7 business days, I called to inquire were my RA # was. They told me that it was not in the system. The lady was nice enough and apologized and told me that she would go ahead and enter it into the system. So I waited and did not receive an RA #. On the 7th business day I called them. That person told me that it was actually 10 business days. I waited 3 more days and still never received anything. I called and the lady told me that she would check into it and did see where it had been approved. She came back and was able to tell me the RA#. I asked her what I needed to do next. She said that I needed to have the item shipped back to them and then they would reimburse me. This is the first time I have ever ordered something and had to pay to return it (when it was their fault that they shipped me the wrong item). I purchased the items on August 29th and finally received the RA # September 19th. I shipped the item back to them on the same day and called them today about getting reimbursed. The lady took my information and said she will submit my request. I will post later as to wether or not I receive my shipping cost back.
On another issue, I received an email about the $30 rebate I submitted for the 1 GB SD card. I was told that I did not submit an invoice with my documentation. I had used Google checkout and sent them my invoice sent by Google. I called the rebate administers and they told me that the Google invoice was not what was required and that I had to have an eCost invoice. Be forwarned, if you are trying to get a rebate, do not use the Google checkout. It does not state anything like this on the website or the rebate submission form!!!! I called eCost and they told me that they would mail an invoice to me so I can resubmit. We will see.
They sent me an invoice and I resubmitted the rebate. It was denied because the invoice did not have my billing address on it. I'm guessing because I used Google Checkout, that the billing address is theirs. Anyway, I called OnRebate.com and they told me that there is nothing I can do because it is now after the timeframe for which the rebate is good. So this 1GB SD card is going to cost me $38 instead of $8. The guy at OnRebate says it is eCost because they require the information. I don't know who to believe, but I can tell you that I will never buy from eCost again!!!!
