I purchased this cell phone in October 05 shortly after it was released by Verizon. In fact I was told by my saleswoman at Verizon store that I was the second one buying that phone in their store. Initially most people that saw my phone were asking me about it and were curious to check it out. I had been waiting for this phone for quite some time since I wanted something similar and different to a sidekick but had to remain in Verizon.
The feature I liked most about this phone was the mini-keyboard when you opened it. I am a text message freak and I loved that feature. They keys were all a bit too small for my fingers but I deal with it. The phone also had a good sized inside LCD screen that was very clear and sharp but the outside smaller screen was very blurry and small.
The vibration feature on this phone is very strong, but even at the loudest setting the ringer was not very loud, sometimes I had it on Ringer mode and I did not even hear it ring, I would find out I had missed calls when I checked it later.
This phone's digital camera is very good. Takes very clear stills but the video quality suffers from pixelation. You are also limited to 15 seconds of per video clip but I think you can get more if you add an expansion memory chip to it.
I loved the reception on this phone. It worked everywhere I went, even in Mexico (under Verizon's North America's choice). CDMA signals in Mexico are very limited since GSM is the standard over there but this phone managed to pick up very good reception throughout Central Mexico.
Just like most of Verizon's phones that have been released within the last year or so this phone has VCAST (subscription required), navigator (Subscription required), Get it now, etc.
I eventually got bored of this phone (I get bored of things really easy) and even though I loved it I decided to purchase a SAMSUNG A-990 flip phone to replace the VX-9800. I've sold this phone over 2 months ago and I miss the mini-keyboard so much! But I also don't like having something so ordinary and common and this phone has become so common now that I don't regret replacing it.
