Driving The "Hotel on Wheels"....safely:)
by lsebastan35 | Mar 09 '02
A responsible motor home driver is all it takes to enjoy awesome places in the nation never seen. Might I suggest Lake Couer D' ALene, Idaho or Missoula, Montana?

CDL For Motor Homes? (Reply to this comment)
by oldgoat34
I formerly held a CDL and Drove Big Rigs all over the Continental US Canada and Alaska For over 20 years.Today I cannot meet the Physical Requirements to get a CDL without Waivers. So I couldn't drive my Travel Trailer a 34 Ft one.Or move into a Motor Home if I chose By your opinion.Yes Its nice that I have all the knowledge from OTR Driving but It doesn't help me that much pulling my Travel Trailer. Its a different animal and I don't have to keep log books thank God I hated those Lie Sheets.I agree It would be nice if people had the knowledge of the DOT Regs but for someone not Driving Commercially they really don't matter for safe operation. That is the real goal of all those regs.I agree people need special training for Driving RVs and maybe a certificate required as a suffix to thier license but not a CDL that was for most of Us just another way for the DMV department to get more money from us.I didn't do a thing more except have to take more tests and pay more money when I went from my Chauffers License I needed to Drive a Semi to get the CDL I didn't even study for the tests and still passed with high marks getting my TX rating for Joints and HazMat.I don't believe anyone should be allowed to drive a Large RV or Pull a Long Trailer without some required training but a CDL is way to much of a infringement upon pleasure drivers and the physical requirement is out of line even for Professional Drivers if strictly interpretted by the medical examiners. Its way overwritten but thank God on some of it you can get waivers. So I agree in part as far as the knowledge goes but the CDL is too much to require.

Great advice! (Reply to this comment)

We used to own a Foretravel 40' motorcoach, and I did all the driving after awhile. We sold our motorhome this past spring and I really miss it, but I think what I miss most is driving it. Both my husband and I took a two day driving course before we took it out on the road. I've thought of getting a little more training and doing motorhome delivery, but I know that they all don't drive the same. I think our RV was probably easier to drive than some just because of some of the features, and I might be relying on those.

Now my husband just bought a Pleasure Way van camper, and he hasn't let me try it yet as he's trying to get comfortable driving it all around. I don't think it will be much fun to drive, however. :)

I'm probably more part of Fragglemom's WOT web than Annexations. But I guess it's all the same, huh? Oh, and as for your "Minnesota Sucks" comment: No shit.

Martez,

Every once in a blue moon I read a comment on one of my reviews and "just know" the commentor is amongst the WOT network of Annexation. So to amuse my curiosity I checked. Now I am beginning to wonder if I should be the new Miss Cleo!!!

Thank you for reading, commenting and the trust. I am most appreciative!
