It's Only A Movie...Mar 11 '02 (Updated Oct 12 '03) Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line These are the perfect movies to watch in the dark break out the popcorn and a blanket to share with your better half and tell yourself Its just a movie Lets face it theres nothing better than a good horror movie to rattle the nerves a little. I think we've all had experiences of watching a good spooky movie late at night by ourselves and than being afraid to go to bed afterward wondering if theres something under the bed or if the noise downstairs was the furnace or the boogy man.Or in my case when I was a teen, having my Dad or one of my brothers sneak into the room and scare the begeezus out of me. Personally I'm not affected by slasher films but I love a good ghost story. 10)SALEM'S LOT-This is still my favorite Vampire movie and in my opinion, the best job of bringing a Stephen King best seller to life.Nothing suave or debonair about the main Vampire in this film he's just plain mean and scary. 9)The Thing-1982-The Special effects are eye popping for this great horror film literally for the character (Palmer) whose eyes did pop out! when the "Thing" came ripping out of him. Not just a special effects extravaganza, but the movie is suspenseful as far as guessing who's human, and who has the "Thing" inside them. 8)The Howling- This is my favorite werewolf film Great FX. and still the best Wolf transformation I've seen.Doesn't quite have the humor of "AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF" had, but than again I wasn't looking for a laugh. 7)The Fog-This is just a good old fashioned ghost story about a town that is besieged by ghost on its 100th anniversary. When the Fog rolls in so does the ghost of a 100 year old shipwreck.Great story This movie by far has the longest opening credits I've ever seen.Another winner by John Carpenter. 6)The Changeling-This is another really good ghost story about a house that is inhabited by the ghost of a child that was murdered in a 90 year old house. Great performance by George C. Scott. 5)The Believers-This movie is based on the religion of Santeria, which uses the practice of sacrificing animals to appease the Gods. Except in this movie some of the members are sacrificing children to obtain power for personal gain. This is truly a scary film, great acting from Martin Sheen,Robert loggia, and Jimmy Smits-in a small part. The scene with the Spiders coming out of Helen Shavers face will make your skin crawl. 4)Exorcist 3-This is another horror film with George C. Scott though not a classic in line with the original "Exorcist" definitely has some classic scenes in it.The old woman crawling on the ceiling just above G.C. Scott. And especially the hall scene in the hospital is truly classic. I don't care how prepared you are you are for the "Hall Scene" you'll jump, especially if you have surround sound speakers like I do.The first time my wife saw this scene, she actually fell off the couch it was hilarious to watch these pair of arms, and legs fly up in the air and then kerplunk... gravity took over. 3)A Cold Nights Death-This was a made for TV movie that came out in the 70's starring Robert Culp and Eli Wallach. This is an absolutely terrific little movie that plays with yours, and the characters minds. Its about two scientific researchers in the Antarctic doing experiments on monkeys. They are up there to continue the work of a fellow researcher that they lost radio contact with. When they reach the station they find the researcher frozen to death and take over his experiments.Eli Wallachs character assumes the first researcher died from going crazy and killed himself, but Robert Culp slowly uncovers that there is something else going on, and that it may not have been suicide, but a supernatural entity is to blame. This movie will keep you glued to your seat, and keep you guessing. The ending has a big time twist to it. 2)Poltergeist-Great story, great acting, great effects Nothing else to really say because everyone has seen this classic. 1)Exorcist-See Poltergeist. Anyway I saw this when I was 15 heard so much about it that I had to see it. I actually started laughing when Linda Blairs bed was bouncing up and down, but when the camera zoomed in on her face and her eyes rolled white, and her throat puffed out I know longer found it amusing, Nor did I want the camera taking me into her bedroom anymore. Because each time it did she got worse looking and scarier, and when your watching a movie like this by yourself in the middle night, you seem to become more aware of weird noises in your house. To be honest with you, I did not want to go into my room after the movie was over. I was in fear that my that my bed would start shaking by itself. What Jaws did to people about fearing the water I feared my bed the same way. This movie still gives me the creeps today. |
