The Bottom Line build your own and benifit in many ways.
My personal Opinion is that building your own computer is the way to go. Forget Dell, Gateway etc.. i think i spend more time fixing other peoples store bought computers then i spend time on mine. First off, It is not as hard as people think, it takes about half a day to go from parts to an operating machine. If you can follow dirrections, or are just good at fitting crap together i gurantee you can do it yourself. (although i do recommend you follow dirrections or have a friend that knows what hes doing around for questions) Secondly for $1500+ you build a better PC then you'll be able to buy. FASTER everything, Better monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard... did i mention you get to pick them out? dont get stuck with some 2 function mouse or a keyboard that is impossible to type on, when you can test them out and pick them out yourself. The next thing is finding what you need. Weither it be the latest technology or something just to get buy, you can find pretty much everything on the internet. I personly buy most of my internal (lighter/smaller) things online, and External things from stores. What you need for a computer: 1. A Case w/ power supply 250+Wattage 2. A Mother board 3. A Processor (i went with AMD) usualy 800mhz+ is sufficant for everyday use. *note copatiablity is an issue, but you can buy the MB and the Processor Together to insure that they are. 4. A video card 5. A sound Card 6. RAM (256 i suggest, its cheep now) Extras to mention- Lan card/Modem and WinTV Thats it for internal things External: (i suggest buying at stores based on weight) Monitor Key Board Mouse Speakers Extras.. Printers, scanners, Web cams, If your looking for a computer now, dont go with something that i'll end up fixing for you. Save me the time, Save you some Money.. we are all happy! the only cons to concider. no warrenty - isnt a problem if you can fix your own stuff most parts have a warrenty (my powersupply went, compusa replaced it without question) No softwear - i find this a plus, because you dont have your comptuer filled with programs you will never ever use and partitioned drives which dont make sense. Although Softwear is expensive and Im not suggesting anything but you can find ways to get it cheep or free. I personal have built my comptuer, my familys computer and 2 friends computers, the only problem not fixable by me was a virus on my familys computer.. probalbly sent by a Brand Name computer! Hope this helps, trust me. .. it will be worth the effort and you might even get a little satisfaction being a new born techwiz |
