Kate, I actually know a couple of beach vendors in Cartagena who must know when the flights depart. Then they bring out the cheap nylon bags to store all the other crap you've bought off them all week.

though the tea wasn't mint. And few are proficient enough in English so be so unctuously oily. We ended up buying more luggage to get our carpets home.

I had a similar experience in a rug shop in Los Angeles a few years back but didn't have the labyrinthine streets of Fez into which to disappear. Something about the way sweat beaded upon my brow gave the merchant a big clue that I was in over my head and he didn't miss his opportunity to pounce.

I enjoyed reading about your crafty escape. Good job!
