Cheap Fares won't lastMar 23 '02 Write an essay on this topic.The Bottom Line Enjoy while it lasts Now that the airlines have cut the commissions to zero for all US agencies, you can bet that prices will be going up for everyone as they will have the monopoly on air travel. They think everyone owns a computer and they love it when you make a mistake as it costs you more to fix it. The airlines were bailed out by the government after 9/11 with your taxpayer money. HOWEVER, they did not tell you that they made travel agencies pay back all of the commissions on refunded tickets. NOW, they are asking for more government money to help them out. They are not telling the American public that they are paying commissions to agencies outside the US (Mexico is getting 9%, etc.). They want to break the travel agencies who have supported them for years and sold their product. They expect the agencies to still sell their product with no compensation at all. The airlines are anti-American in my opinion as they readily accepted our taxpayer money just to give a break to other countries. They refuse to support the USA agencies who helped them all those years. Now you will have to call each airline to get their pricing or if you have a problem with a ticket. I hope you don't mind being on hold most of the day and don't mind pushing the buttons for this department only to push some more buttons before you finally give up or get disconnected! I urge you to contact your government officials in protesting this move by the airlines and speak with the airlines directly in support of travel professionals who REALLY DO CARE about your travel plans and keeping your costs in line. With these commission cuts to zero there will be more people out of work now and that's what we don't need in this country. We need to keep the economy going and create more jobs and support the businesses who are already employing a good work force.  |
