After the Christmas Holidays and my wife was searching for a new warm place for us to go to.
Searching For a New Destination
She was looking for a good value and checked out a number of on-line services and also many airlines and hotels direct. When looking through American Air she saw some good values but there wasn't anything special. They have pages dedicated to finding hotels and resorts. We find it clumsy to go through. I may be worth going to after a destination is found to see if there is any kind of special. We couldn't find anything special before or after.
My wife did eventually decide on Turks and Caicos after seeing air flight rates and looking at resorts there through another few sites. We used American Airlines web site to book our fairs.
Purchasing Our Tickets
Using the site for purchasing our flight tickets was easy enough. I do like that it doesn't take a whole lot of time or PC understanding to do so. The site is user friendly.
I was prompted from point to point. We did have to enter our Passport numbers and address and such. All went smoothly.
After booking the flight using a credit card on their secure site the reservation was made. We were given a number to use and printed out the itinerary along with one paper that had a code on it. We used that code for check in at JFK and my wife and I agreed that we had the easiest check-in at JFK for any airline that morning. We had a good flight to Turks & Caicos.
Know before You Go
I also made use of the site to give me information about the flight. I chose that they email me but it could have been a text message also. That morning before I left my home I knew the flight was still scheduled and the gate we would be leaving through. I get comfort from that kind of information.
Having To use the Site After Our Travels
That leads me to our return trip where we did have a few slight problems. Nothing having to do with safety in the air though. American no longer serves lunch on the flight we took. They will sell you a sandwich. We arrived at 10AM for a 12:10 flight. We were seated well in the back. By the time they came to us they no longer had lunch to offer. The flight attendant said we could purchase some chips. Another small problem was the movie that many paid two dollars for a head set wasn't finished when we landed. Sure a minor problem but what a tease (kinda like the sandwich). We were told the flight has a movie and they don't start it until much too late! the third strike was a terrible odor from the rest rooms near our seats after landing. It was gagging bad. Thankfully we made it off the plane fairly quickly.
Though nothing was life threatening, we were bothered by one little thing after another. I sent an email to the them via the AA site. There's a Contact Us and then scroll to the proper department. I was pleased that they did get back to me within 48 hours and offered a small voucher toward another AA trip. I printed it out and will use it at some time.
Last Thoughts
We have used American on-line service before. No problems booking direct through them. Again it was easy enough and the airline offered a good non-stop rate to and from our destination. It was very competitive!
Using the site to look for destination prices isn't an easy experience. Too much digging to be done. I would be happier if they listed some places with their prices for particular dates instead of having to detail each with too much information.
The process of purchasing the tickets was easy enough and I suppose we all must trust the security of giving Passport numbers and credit card information.
I was pleased with American Airline getting back to me after my getting in touch with them through the site. The rest of the process was done via Email.
I will use the AA site again.
