discarding out of date coupons (Reply to this comment)
by lakesnake
Instead of throwing away out of date coupons, send them to those who can use them. There is a web site "coupons for troops families overseas", they can use the coupons up to 3 months after they have expired. They give a list of bases who accept them. Remember to separate them in 2 baggies, 1 marked food and 1 marked non-food.

Very Helpful Article (Reply to this comment)

I use shoppinggenius.org to find coupons on everything before shopping. I also started using the coupon bar that I found on their site to easily find printable coupons for groceries

Some great tips (Reply to this comment)
by tizzo
My wife's favorite thing is to get paid to take something (by combining a coupon with a rebate or "freebate").
Some additional tips for warehouse club shoppers:
Some (but not all) clubs take manufacturer coupons. In NJ, both the BJ's and the Sam's Club we belonged to took manufacturer coupons. Here in FL, BJ's takes them but Sam's does not. The only way to know for sure is to ask.
One thing to know, however, is that if they do take manufacturer coupons, you can generally use more than one coupon on a multi-pack. For example, if you buy a six-pack of Kleenex, and you have several coupons each good for some amount off when you buy two boxes, you should be able to use three of those coupons on the six-pack.

Coupons in the military (Reply to this comment)
by amomfromca
Unfortunately military bases oversees are the only ones who except expired (up to 6 months) coupons anymore. Thanks for the extremely helpful review.

Another coupon freak like me!! (smile) So great to see someone else that is so involved and knows this information like the back of their hand.
Would love to show you my webpages that I dedicated to couponing. There is also a link on my page that goes to my Coupon Caddy (how I keep my coupons organized).
Feel free to let me know what you think of it...

I'm a Coupon Queen, too!! (Reply to this comment)
by melissasrn, in Kids & Family
I NEVER go to the store without my coupon organizer! Some weeks I can save $30 or more with coupons alone, and that's not including what I buy on sale. Because I prefer to stay home with my family as much as possible and work only as much as I need to so that the bills get paid, this is one rather easy way to save money on living expenses so that I don't have to work full time.
WONDERFUL advice!!!!!

I used to be a coupon queen (Reply to this comment)

Now, I have a different obsession - epinions :).
But seriously, I did heavy duty refunding and couponing for 7 years. Then one day, I just gave it up cold turkey.

DiverPam, excellent suggestion about highlighting the expiration date. I'll have to remember that one!
MT, exceptional review! I am all too familiar with the dirty looks couponers get from huffy people waiting in line behind them... BAH! I say.

Wonderful! (Reply to this comment)

This was the most helpful article I have ever read on this subject. Much better than HELOISE!
I especially liked how you mentioned being organized when you check-out. Some people are not only a checker outer's nightmare, but a nightmare for those waiting in line behind them.
Thanks,
Lorace

Some excellent advice, MaryTara! (Reply to this comment)
by diverpam
I have saved a ton of money over the years using coupons. I once organized a "Coupon Exchange" that allowed coupon swapping between members to get the coupons they needed.
I found it also helped me to use a highlighter to mark the expiration dates. Sometimes they're hard to spot.
