I do recommend to people in major metropolitan areas, but those of us in the boonies might as well not bother wasting our time.

A friend told me about StartSampling and told me about all the great samples she'd received. Then again, she has a full time job and lives in New York. Apparently, SAHM's in the Midwest don't really matter to these companies.
At StartSampling, everyone is offered different samples, based on what each company determines to be their target market. Companies determine if you fall in their target market based partly on where you live, your lifestyle and what you do for a living. In the 6 months since I joined, I have been offered a whopping 5 samples. Only 3 of these samples even arrived. The only other things available to me are discounts on credit cards and surveys. Whoopee.
Yeah, answering the surveys gives you Frequent Tryer Miles on the site, but not many. I was told you can use these miles toward gift certificates and prizes, but those seem to have disappeared.
There are some good things about this site, though. If you do get any samples, they are usually of popular every-day items that you may actually find in your store. I really liked my sample of Quaker Crispy Mini's and have subsequently bought it at my local store.
To sum up my opinion, it is pretty much pointless for a SAHM in the midwest to join because no one seems to consider them to be in their target market. What's the point in joining a sample site if you can't get any samples?
