I have been wanting to write an opinion on this from the moment I first used it ! I do not usually use it in the kitchen , but this is the best category I could find to fit it in .
What first prompted me to buy this timer is my husband started working a graveyard shift . I am an extremely light sleeper and can wake up to the sound of a pin drop . However , after several nights of light sleep I finally wear down enough to sleep heavy . This would result in me sleeping through our alarm . My husband can sleep through a tornado . After a discussion on the fact that if he kept being late once a week he was going to lose his job , we went out in search of a miracle . The perfect alarm clock .
I happen to have fondness for truck stops . I think they are cool . So , I shop at them often for neat gadgets that regular places just do not carry . I had noticed this alarm clock there often . I had also seen it at other truck stops . The price was very steep . It cost $20.00 plus tax . The build of the clock is only about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide . It is made of bright yellow plastic . I really have found the color useful . It makes the clock easy to spot if you misplace it .
This clock doesn't have a " clock " on it . Merely a timer . It is simple to run and program . The timer runs off a 9 volt battery that really lasts a long time . The timer runs digitally , so you do not have to think in the middle of the night trying to figure out exactly what time it is . There is a button on the front that lights up the time remaining that I have found immensely helpful.You can program the timer to go off at up to 19 hours and 59 minutes later . The instructions are imprinted on the back of the timer . This is great in case you forget or lose the original copy that comes with it .
The absolutely best thing is the volume . There are two volume settings on this timer . The first is your average sound volume . This is basically what all alarm clocks and timers come with . Just your average beeping sound . The second is so loud and annoying I will bet money my neighbors hate me when I use it ! It is an ear piercing headachey sound . Not the most pleasant way to wake up , but exactly what we needed !
This timer can come in handy in the kitchen . Say you are making a roast and the conditions outside are perfect to garden . You do not have to keep coming back in to check your timer - believe me - you will hear it . I have used it in the kitchen several times while I had to feed my pets and the like outside .
The timer itself seems very sturdy . I have dropped it plenty of times and the battery cover doesn't even come off . Needless to say it still works . For twenty bucks I would go as far as to say you are getting a steal .
We also really like to take this timer on vacation with us . I find we are usually too wore out to wake up to any normal alarm . No one wants to sleep their vacation away and this has been a life saver . Warning : it is so loud you will be unable to not be gripey for a couple of minutes upon your rude awakening !
Lastly , you can actually use this timer as a defensive mechanism . It has a panic button that when pushed lets out the screeching wail . This is supposed to scare people off . It is so loud it scares me everytime it goes off , so I see no reason why an intruder would not head for the hills !
I found mine at the T.A. truck stop . I have also seen them at basically every truck stop that is large enough to have a gift shop .
