Background
I have to admit it; I have never used bleach on my own (except a watered down version to clean my massage table). I have always been afraid to use it on my clothes, thinking I would use it incorrectly and would ruin them (Lets face it, Dalmatians are cute, but I do not want to dress like one). Getting a chance to try out this product was a good opportunity for me to expand my cleaning knowledge. When I read that adding liquid bleach to at least one wash load a week can help to prevent the buildup of the microscopic layer of living slime in your washing machine that can be home to dirt and germs, I was sold on the idea.
What Is It?
Clorox UltimateCare Premium Bleach claims to be the first product to combine the great benefits of liquid bleach-like whitening, cleaning, and stain and soil removal with several new, user-friendly features. (from product fact sheet) It is designed so you can pour it directly on your bleachable clothes, and once the clothes are washed, they come out clean and soft. It even has its own special scent (called Soft Cotton). You can also use it to pre-treat stains either by pouring it directly on the clothes or adding it to your wash. The product does boast that it can be used on some colored fabrics as well, but recommends that you test the product first before you wash it.
Clorox UltimateCare Premium Bleach comes in a 30 oz. bottle and sells for $1.99 (or you can get a 90 oz. bottle for $4.29); of course, the price does depend somewhat on where you live. I had no problems finding it at the prices listed above.
The bottle is a white bottle with blue labels and cap. The 30 oz. bottle is not very large, the same size as a fabric softener bottle, but it is just my husband and me in the house, so for what I use it for, the 30 oz. is the perfect size. If you have children or someone who stains a lot of clothing, you may want to go for the larger bottle.
It has a thick, creamy consistency that is thicker than I expected, but it also made it very easy to put on the clothes in the area I wanted, and it did not spill or splash as easily. The bottle design definitely helped with that.

Directions
First, sort your laundry by color. If you have a small or medium sized load, fill the Clorox UltimateCare Bleach cap to line 1. If the clothes are exceptionally soiled, or for larger loads, you will want to fill it to line 2. Add your detergent to the wash water, add the laundry and there you go. This information can be found on www.clorox.com. The site also recommends, if you want the best results, you should add the bleach to the wash 5 minutes after the wash cycle has begun.
You should avoid using Clorox UltimateCare Bleach with the following fabrics: wool, silk, mohair, leather, spandex and non-bleachable colors (check the tag).
If you choose to pre-treat the stains, just apply the product directly onto the stained area and then wash the item as usual.
Should you decide to try out the product on a colored item or any item you are concerned that the product may change the color, Clorox suggests that you do the bleachability test, which is basically adding a drop of the product to a hidden area on the clothing you would like to wash, and then rinse it off after 3 minutes. If the color did not change, then the item can be safely bleached.
My Experience
Since this was my first experience with using bleach in my laundry, I was really nervous. My first load was a basic one, mainly white socks, towels that we did not really care about, and old t-shirts. One of the towels had a good amount of colors in it, so I was curious how that would come out.
I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked it. The product was very easy to use, and our items came out clean and fresh, with no color changes. My only beef is, no matter how you look at it, the items smelled like bleach, and I did not like that. BUT, since it can really get out those armpit stains, I can concede to the smell.
I have since used it on various other things, like a shirt I managed to spill coffee on, and it worked wonders, without taking out the color. The shirt was very light in color, so I was pretty confident that I would not have a problem, but I still tested a hidden area before pre-treating with the product. Other than the smell, I had no complaints. The shirt came out perfectly. I would still restrain from using it on dark colors though.
Overall
I really liked the product. I have to admit, it does what it says it will do, and the cleaning power was much better than I expected.
Thanks to Fleischmann-Hillard for providing me with a free sample of this product to test, in return for my unbiased review.
